Underdog Sports Betting Platform Plans Ohio Launch

Underdog App 150x150 1The Ohio sports betting market is launching soon! Legal online betting, as well as retail sports betting in certain counties, is coming to the Buckeye State on January 1st, 2023. While that might sound like it’s a ways away, sports betting operators are going full speed ahead to enter the potentially robust Ohio betting scene. When New Year’s Day comes around, locals will be able to place bets on all their favorite teams, such as the Cleveland Guardians, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cleveland Cavaliers. Most of the top names you’d expect are already looking to expand into the area, such as DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, BetMGM Sportsbook, and Barstool Sportsbook. However, one of the most interesting potential betting options in the state looks to come from Underdog Fantasy. With the platform entering the sports betting market, let’s take a look at the potential rollout of Underdog Sportsbook in the state of Ohio.

Underdog Fantasy Releasing Online Sportsbook

While Underdog Fantasy has long been purely a fantasy sports platform, that’s not the case anymore. Underdog has been looking to get into online sports betting for some time now, as evidenced by the company’s acquisition of the wagering technology company GOAT Gaming last fall. The main aim of Underdog’s venture into online sports betting is to stand out from the massive competition with unique promos and features.

Underdog would hardly be the first fantasy sports platforms to evolve into a full sportsbook. Two of the biggest names in sports gambling right now, FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook, both got started as daily fantasy sports platforms before releasing mobile sportsbooks and online casinos.

Underdog Sportsbook Sniffing Ohio Market

While details are still sparse on what the Underdog sports betting app will look like, we do know that the platform is aiming to expand into a few different markets. Although the company has already successfully submitted an application for a sports betting license in the active Colorado market, Underdog has also applied for a betting license in Ohio. The overall plan is for the Underdog online sportsbook app to launch in both Colorado and Ohio early in 2023. The Colorado sports wagering market has already been very successful, and considering that Ohio has twice the population, it should also see a big sports betting handle.

Cincinnati Reds, Underdog Plan Partnership

In case you didn’t already think Underdog was serious about moving its sports betting offerings into Ohio, the company has planned a partnership with one of the most popular teams in the area. The Underdog online sportsbook has struck a partnership with one of the state’s Major League Baseball teams, the Cincinnati Reds. This is one of many scheduled partnerships between sportsbooks and professional teams, with Betfred teaming up with the Cincinnati Bengals and Fanatics collaborating with the Columbus Blue Jackets. While the Cincinnati Reds are still trying to compete with tough teams like the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central, this partnership looks to be mutually beneficial, especially since sports wagering will be completely available by the start of the 2023 MLB season.
