U.S. Open Cut Info: Fade Rory McIlroy?

The U.S. Open cut line differs from the core PGA Tour events and major championships. After two rounds, the top 70 players, including ties, will play the weekend. Most PGA Tour events include the top 65 players and ties. At the Masters, the top 50 players advance.

Last year, the U.S. Open began with 156 contestants before dipping to 74 as the official cuts were made (five-over-par). Household names, like Viktor Hovland, Max Homa, and the legendary Tiger Woods, failed to make the cut. Hovland made a strong push in the second round, tallying six birdies on his card. However, double bogey on the ninth and bogeys on 16 and 17 kept him one short of advancing to Saturday. Hovland, No. 5 in the world ranking at the time, was the highest-ranked player to miss the cut.

Therefore, some plus-money odds listed above are worth considering. For one, McIlroy hasn’t impressed following his Masters feat and noted that he’s “concerned” by his play after dealing with driver issues at the Canadian Open. McIlroy missed the cut on Friday, finishing nine-over-par while ranking 149th in a 153-player field. He’s lined at +250 to do the same at the 2025 U.S. Open.
