Wayne Gretzky Joins Forces with BetMGM

betmgm-115x115BetMGM made a major announcement on Wednesday, and it is one that will help the brand become a leader with NHL hockey bettors. BetMGM has agreed to a deal with Wayne Gretzky as he will become a new brand ambassador for the company.

Gretzky, “The Great One,” will play a major role in the marketing efforts of BetMGM in North America, specifically on the NHL side of the operation. There are very few hockey players that are as popular worldwide, but Gretzky is one of those players.

BetMGM already has a strong presence in the sport of hockey as MGM Resorts inked a deal with the NHL in 2018 that made it the official sports betting partner of the league. MGM Resorts is the parent company of BetMGM, and it has given the online sportsbook a huge advantage over the competition.

The NHL is still not a major betting market in the United States, but the league has taken an aggressive approach in the industry. Adding Gretzky to the company will help BetMGM attract more hockey action and will benefit the NHL as well.

TNT Also Signing Gretzky

NHL PngGretzky has been working as the vice-chairman of the Edmonton Oilers, but he stepped away from that role in May. It didn’t take long for “The Great One” to find a new job as he was quickly hired by Turner Sports as a studio analyst.

Turner Sports has inked a deal with the NHL, and it will begin broadcasting NHL games next season. Gretzky will be a prominent voice and presence on those broadcasts as the league attempts to grow its brand.
Gretzky Still a Legend
Gretzky had a long list of NHL records when he announced his retirement from the NHL, and many of those records are still standing to this day. He is considered the greatest hockey player of all time, and no player has ever challenged that status.

The Great One has 61 NHL records to this day and is the NHL all-time leader in both goals and assists. His career total of 2,857 total points will never be matched.

Gretzky won nine MVP Awards in the NHL during his 21-year career with the Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and New York Rangers.

BetMGM Following a Trend

This big move by BetMGM follows a trend that has been established by other big names in the US sports betting industry. Sports betting companies have inked deals with some of the biggest names in sports to help promote their brands.

DraftKings made a monster splash when it hired Michael Jordan as a special adviser to the company. Cal Ripken Jr. has also joined DraftKings as a special adviser, giving the company a pair of Hall of Fame athletes.

FanDuel Sportsbook has inked a deal with Charles Barkley, and he has been the face of numerous promotions since the deal was made. Other sportsbooks have signed deals with local sports legends in the states in which they operate.
