Where Bettors Are Placing Money This College Football Saturday

College Football was only second to the NFL when it came to American wagers in November. It is one of the biggest sports for bettors, and this Saturday has some very interesting splits to talk about. Looking at the top 25, it seems that almost every game has at least one bet, with the majority of bettors going one way and the money going the other. This means that big bettors are going against the grain in quite a few bets.

The information for these splits was provided by DraftKings Sportsbook as of Friday morning.

Syracuse vs #2 Notre Dame

notre dame fighting irishThis game has a massive 33.5 spread in favor of the Fighting Irish. However, in one of the most even splits you will ever see, bettors are split 52 to 48 percent in favor of the underdog Syracuse. What is even more fascinating is the total handle (amount wagered) is also split perfectly 52 to 48 percent in favor of Syracuse. The public does not know where to go, and this means that DraftKings is probably looking at a profit either way with his 33.5 spread that it hit on the nose.

One of the more interesting bets of the week is the over/under in this game. Sitting at 51.5, the implied point total in this game for Notre Dame is 42.5 and 9 for Syracuse. This is a very low and bold total point number for the spread, and bettors are heavily hitting the over with 92% of bets coming in at the over. However, if you follow the money, the under currently has 60% of the handle. This means that big money bets are coming in for the under, while the majority of the public is hitting that over.

Virginia Tech vs #3 Clemson

clemson tigersThis is one of the most lopsided games of the week. The spread is 21.5 points in favor of Clemson, and Clemson is sitting at 89% of the total handle and 86% of the total bets placed. This means that both the money and the public are siding with Clemson and see this spread as much too low. Then, you head over to the over/under where at 66.5 bettors are similarly hammering the over with 87% of the total bets and 84% of the handle going that way.

However, the most lopsided of all the bets is the Moneyline for this game. 99%+ of the money is on Clemson at -1250, and 97% of the bets are on the Tigers. Nobody is placing money on Virginia Tech, and it does seem to be for a good reason. At +700, Virginia Tech is not promising a ton of value for a game in which the sportsbook is predicting a massive three-touchdown loss for the Hokies.

Vanderbilt vs #8 Georgia

georgia bulldogsThis has to be my favorite bet of the week; the Bulldogs are favored by 35.5 points with a 53.5 over/under, which gives them a 44.5 implied point total to Vanderbilt’s 9. The public is totally on board the Georgia spread, with 78% of the bets and 95% of the cash flowing into the Georgia spread line.

Meanwhile, like the Notre Dame game, bettors are hitting the over hard alongside the Georgia spread. However, while the total bets are split 45-55 percent in favor of the under, the money is 83-17 percent in favor of the over. Again, this is an example of big-money players moving to one side.
