Will Ohio Retail Sportsbooks Open On New Year’s Day?
Contents
The wagering world has been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Ohio sports betting. With the planned launch at midnight on January 1st, 2023, the biggest sports betting operators in the industry are ready for a major launch. Thanks to the different types of sports betting licenses in the state, three types of sports betting options will go live. Mobile sportsbook apps will be available for operators with a Type A license, Type B licenses will allow for traditional retail sportsbooks, and Type C licenses give everything from restaurants to grocery stores the option to install betting kiosks.
While many bettors know that they can start placing bets with Ohio online sportsbooks right at midnight, will retail sportsbooks be available? Let’s see which retail betting spots will be opening right at midnight and check out what the future holds for other brick-and-mortar sportsbooks throughout the state.
Hard Rock Cincinnati Sportsbook, Others Taking In-Person Bets At Midnight
In anticipation of the Ohio sports betting launch, some casinos are celebrating with major events while also opening in-person sportsbooks. The biggest celebration will likely come from Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati, one of the most popular casinos in the state of Ohio.
That event will feature a number of former Cincinnati star athletes, such as former MLB pitcher Pete Rose, Cincinnati Bengals legend Ickey Woods, and gold medal winner at track Mary Wineberg, who is a native of the city.
The major highlight of the event will have Pete Rose placing the very first wagers at the newly opened Hard Rock Cincinnati Sportsbook right at 12:01 a.m. on New Year’s Day. However, Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati won’t be the only retail sportsbook available when the clock hits midnight.
Two betting hotspots from JACK Entertainment (JACK Cleveland Casino and JACK Thistledown Racino) are also planning on opening brick-and-mortar sportsbooks right at midnight. These sportsbooks are looking to provide guests with a comfortable place to not just wager on sports, but watch games on a number of big screens.
MGM Northfield Park, another major Ohio casino, will also be taking its very first in-person BetMGM Sportsbook bets at midnight. Plenty of other casinos throughout the Buckeye State are also expected to have retail sports betting locations, such as the four Hollywood Casino locations, Miami Valley Gaming, and Scioto Downs Racino.

More Retail Sportsbooks Coming To Ohio Stadiums & Casinos Soon
Plenty of other Ohio retail sportsbooks will begin taking bets soon as well! Some of the most interesting of these in-person sportsbooks will be located at different sports stadiums across Ohio. Both the Cleveland Guardians and Columbus Blue Jackets have partnered with the soon-to-be-released BetFanatics Sportsbook, and will ave a retail sportsbook presence at both Progressive Field and Nationwide Arena respectively.
A physical BetMGM Sportsbook will also be available at Great American Ballpark, home of the Cincinnati Reds. Plus, FC Cincinnati has planned for a sportsbook at their home field TQL Stadium. One of the most interesting brick-and-mortar sportsbooks will be located at Hall of Fame Village in Canton and be provided by Rush Street Interactive.
