Thursday Night Football: Cincinnati Bengals(+6) vs Cleveland Browns
Two AFC North rivals who started their season off with a loss, will matchup in Week 2 on Thursday Night Football. The Cincinnati Bengals and rookie quarterback Joe Burrow lost a close one to the Los Angeles Chargers 16-13. The Cleveland Browns and heavily criticized quarterback Baker Mayfield were blown out by a far more talented Baltimore Ravens team by a score of 38-6.
Burrow and the Bengals had a decent performance in Week 1 despite not getting the win. The worst team last season, the Bengals already have more to look forward to this year as Burrow put together an above-average performance considering the situation. Against an underrated Chargers’ defense, the Bengals have to be somewhat pleased with their performance despite not getting the win.
As for the Browns, nothing seemed to go right. They were outperformed in all aspects of the game and turnovers were a big problem (3). Their defense had a hard time covering Ravens’ receiver as well. While the run game between Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb was solid, star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. looked bad in every way possible.
Burrow and the Bengals are a team that will only improve as the season progresses and he gets more experience. The Browns, on the other hand, are a team that seems to have too many issues going on all at once. You don’t want to overreact from one game but at the same time, Cleveland just doesn’t look like a good team.
In a divisional game between two 0-1 teams on a Thursday, coming off of a short week, this game should be a tight one. Neither team appears to be any better than the other at this point. Burrow has shown he has the ability to make plays with his legs as well as his arm. He has a couple of great targets in A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd. Add in a top 10 back in Joe Mixon, and this Bengals offense certainly has talent.
After missing out on a game-winning drive in Week 1, look for the Bengals get the cover and maybe even get that game-winning drive in this one. Between two below-average teams, take the points and the Bengals as they enter this game on a higher note than their opponent, despite both teams losing in Week 1.
Pick: Bengals +6
