Adequate on Offense

NC State shouldn't have any problem efficiently moving the football. Ryan Finely is one of the most accurate and conservative quarterbacks in the ACC. Kelvin Harmon is a thoroughbred at wide receiver and pair of seniors, Tyler Jones, Sr. and Garrett Bradbury reinforces a solid offensive line. The Wolfpack lost a thousand yard rusher in Nyheim Hines. While the initial talk is of a running back by committee approach, Reggie Gallaspy has the tools to give coach Dave Doeren enough of a rushing threat to allow Finley to strategically move the offense with short passes. The Wolfpack offense should be top-shelf quality, but the questions are on defense.

Holes to Fill on Defense

The questions on how good the football season will be in Raleigh, NC center around the team's defense. This unit kept them in most games, and almost propelled them to a potential one-loss season. Eight of the unit's strongest players are gone. However, looking deeper into how the 2017 defense played gives hope for a new season.

North Carolina State used a number of players beyond their top 11 defenders. This built solid depth on defense for NC State. One place the Wolfpack did not lose is in the secondary. Three out of the four primary pass defenders are back.

Three important seniors will provide experienced leadership on defense. Defensive end Darian Roseboro, linebacker Germaine Pratt, and tackle Eurndraus Bryant will be critical. NC State will also gain a big advantage in the field-position struggle, as they have one of the best punters in the nation, AJ Cole.

Three tough losses derailed a potential ACC title run for NC State in 2017. This year's Wolfpack will need to find leaders to step up on the defensive side of the ball. However, if they do, they may spell problems for the big boys in the ACC.
