Christian McCaffery Fantasy Football Outlook & Value 2019

The 2020 fantasy football season is quickly approaching which means it’s time to get a start on your research. We have you covered with our fantasy football rankings as well as projections for the upcoming season. If you are interested in the defensive side of the ball we have you covered there as well. Leave no stone unturned and check out everything we have to offer.

Christian McCaffrey seems to be gearing up for another big season in 2019. He finished the 2018 campaign with 1,098 rushing yards which put him at 6th in the NFL. His 7 TDs had him tied at 14th. He averaged 5.0 yards per carry on 219 attempts. 2019 will be his third NFL season, so we’ll likely see even better production on the year.

ESPN’s Mike Clay tweeted out a snippet of a discussion about the likelihood of McCaffrey hitting over 1,800 scrimmage for a second season in a row. A point that is raised in the video is that McCaffrey played 97% of snaps for the Panthers last year, which is a tall order for any player, let alone a running back. The Panthers have mentioned wanting to cut down on that this year, so while it’s possible he’ll hit that 1,800 mark again, it’s less likely.

That being said, at Lineups we have McCaffrey listed as RB2 with a projected 952.5 rushing yards on 217.2 attempts. This seems entirely doable for the third year RB. We also have him projected for 5.5 rushing TDs and 797.8 receiving yards on 98.9 receptions. Again, these numbers don’t seem unattainable in the slightest for McCaffrey.

McCaffrey’s floor isn’t very low going into the 2019 season. Sure, his snap percentage might cut down a little bit this year, but if it does it likely won’t be cut by much. He’s proved himself enough in his two seasons in Carolina that, barring injury, he’ll be a staple of their offense and thus produce a lot of fantasy points. I like his ceiling going into the year. While his numbers from 2018 will be hard to beat, I still think with more experience comes greater on-field ability. My guess is that McCaffrey will stay at RB2 as the season chugs along.

Carolina PanthersHis current average draft position is 1.04 which is right on them money in my opinion. If you can find a way to secure McCaffrey, well, I shouldn’t even have to say it – pull the trigger. The only RB we have listed above McCaffrey is Saquon Barkley who I would recommend taking ahead of him, but other than that I like McCaffrey’s chances going into the year. His current auction value out of $200 is $55 which is steep, yes, but well worth it in my opinion. In an auction, I would recommend McCaffrey ahead of Barkley, since saving $10 might be worth the slight setback in potential stats.

What I like about McCaffrey is how versatile of a player he’s shown himself to be in just two seasons with the Panthers. On top of that, he’s played all 16 games in both 2017 and 2018, so there aren’t currently any injury concerns with the young running back. He’s filled his role incredibly well with the Panthers thus far and seems to have a great working relationship with the rest of the Carolina offense, which in turn leads to positive outcomes in my opinion.
