Deshaun Watson was a top five fantasy quarterback in 2018, despite tossing under 30 touchdowns. Watson has had a tough time with his supporting cast being healthy, and the offensive line play has made life rough on Watson. While the offensive line play is likely going to be shaky in 2019, the supporting cast looks a bit more intact. The Houston Texans have been a two-headed fantasy monster with him and DeAndre Hopkins. Having one of the best wide receivers in the league is a big help for Watson and fantasy production.

2018 Fantasy Recap

It was another year of a big wide receiver going down and horrendous offensive line play. Yet Deshaun Watson continues to make it work. His mobility gives him an edge in fantasy, but also if he wasn’t the Texans offense could be in shambles. Watson had over 500 rushing yards on the ground and five rushing touchdowns. Outside of Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, nobody had more rushing yards than Watson. Of course they won’t have the passing stats to measure and compete with Watson in fantasy. There is also no doubt that when Will Fuller is on the field, Watson and the Texans offense is a better product. Fuller had another major injury, and in his seven games had a 32-503-4 line.

2019 Fantasy Outlook

Deshaun Watson has so many positives tied to his name since coming into the league. He is averaging over 20 fantasy points per game since entering the league, and is top five in a lot of passing stats. He is 5th in completion rate since 2017, and has the fourth best touchdown rate. Watson is the best dual-threat quarterback in the game right now. His efficiency in the pocket, and his ability to move and throw out of pocket is a wonder. Watson has averaged 35 rushing yards per game in his career, and that is a cool 3.5 fantasy points added onto his outcome each day. His floor is one of the safest on the board, and there is also an upside where he finishes as QB1 in scoring.

We are not likely going to see the offensive line improve in 2019, which is a bit scary for health reasons, but the rushing upside is why his QB1 potential. If Fuller stays healthy, Watson’s upside goes bonkers. He has thrown 32 touchdowns in the 11 games where they are both healthy.

Draft & Auction Value

When it comes to re-draft leagues for the upcoming season, Watson is currently being drafted after Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck, and only a few picks ahead of Baker Mayfield. Watson is certainly a quarterback to draft within the first six rounds, and as mentioned above has that QB1 upside. In auctions Watson is going to cost you a few more bucks, but is well worth it. Houston has one of the easiest pass schedules in the league this season, and if they can stay healthy this offense is going to be fantasy gold.
