Fresh off an offseason makeover, the New York Jets will be hoping their offense will make a leap. One player they’ll need to count on to do so is receiver Robby Anderson. Luckily for them, Anderson has some pretty grand ambitions. About a month ago at minicamp, Anderson told reporters, “I would say I am working harder, understanding things and trying to find ways to get better and pushing myself to new limits. Things that I thought was good, like the first couple of years, I used to think 100 yards was good. For what I want to be, elite, top-five wide receiver, that’s not really good.” Jets quarterback Sam Darnold will certainly hope that’s the case, as the Jets have lacked a WR1 for some time.

Upside
Robby Anderson has had an encouraging start to his career despite some less than ideal circumstances. With an offensive overhaul, it’s possible that Anderson breaks out this season. Gase helped the Broncos produce some of the best offenses in the league when he was a coordinator there, and the Jets are hoping he’ll have a similar effect. Le’veon Bell has also joined the team, and he should provide a major spark in the Jets ground game. Things seem to be looking up for Sam Darnold, and by extension Robby Anderson. If the new additions have their intended effect, Anderson could break out as a WR1 and produce over 1000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns for the first time in his career.
Floor
Conversely, the Jets new overhaul could fail miserably. As great as Gase was in Denver, he was severely disappointing in Miami. Darnold is more talented than Ryan Tannehill, but it doesn’t change the fact Gase was unable to lift up their offense. Similarly, the addition of Le’veon Bell could backfire, as he’s proven notoriously unreliable. Despite his incredible talent, the fact that he held out an entire season looms large, and it’s possible the Jets regret adding such a volatile player. The Jets have talent, but their chemistry is something that could prove to be their undoing. If the Jets fall apart, Anderson could stagnate, with just 800 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns.
What to Expect
Anderson is currently ranked as the 20th best receiver and holds an auction value of $17. He’s expected to be drafted in the 6th round. As the main receiving option on the Jets, an ADP in the 6th round feels low, considering the potential he has. His price tag isn’t half bad either, when considering guys like Amari Cooper and Stefon Diggs have a price tag in the high 20s and low 30s.
Anderson has pretty high steal potential when considering his draft position and price. He has the potential to become a very good WR2 for your team, and should at the very least be an elite WR3 or flex. His ceiling and floor does feel like it might be a little reliant on outside forces, meaning your position on him may vary depending on how you feel about Darnold, Gase, and Bell. Personally, I think the new additions will work in the end, though the transition won’t be smooth. I’m expecting Anderson to hit the 1000 yard mark for the first time in his career, though I think 7 or 8 touchdowns are more reasonable than a double digit amount.
