Baltimore Ravens
@ Philadelphia Eagles
The Ravens showed how good they really are last week. They dominated rookie Joe Burrow and that entire Cincinnati offense. Patrick Queen, rookie ILB, seems to really be stepping into his own, and this was the first monster week that we have seen out of him. Meanwhile, the secondary shut down all the incredible weapons at Burrow’s disposal, and the defensive line gave him no time to throw.
Now the Ravens get to take on the Eagles and their multitude of practice squad WRs. The only weapons that the Ravens will even have to think about are Miles Sanders and Zach Ertz. The latter, of course, has been having a terrible season. This secondary will not be giving up touchdowns to Travis Fulgham as we saw from the Steelers. I expect sacks, turnovers, and a dominant performance by this Baltimore team.
Los Angeles Rams
@ San Francisco 49ers
The Los Angeles Rams’ defense looks extremely fierce this year. Aaron Donald is as good as ever, and their secondary group is one of the best in the leagues. Meanwhile, the 49ers’ offense is in shambles. They could do nothing against Miami or Philadelphia. The entire problem stems from Jimmy Garappolo and the QB situation. Kyle Shanahan does not require that much from his QB, especially with the way he has Mostert and Mckinnon running the ball. These two can put up points in this game and get chunk yardage. However, the Rams will sack the QB and get turnovers. The talent is just not there, at the most important spot, for the 49ers.
New England Patriots
Vs Denver Broncos
Denver is getting their #1 QB back in Drew Lock. However, even with the big cannon and loads of weapons, Lock is prone to turnovers. This Patriots’ defense is a safe play with pretty high upside. I can very easily see a pick 6, or multiple sacks in this game leading to a big score for the Patriots’ DST, regardless of the final score. Having Stephon Gillmore back to cover Tim Patrick or Jerry Jeudy is absolutely huge for the New England DST play. Having one of the best shutdown corners will limit the ceiling of the Broncos’ offense.
Miami Dolphins
Vs New York Jets
The Jet’s ownership is clearly purposefully tanking the season. If the ownership group or GM wanted to win at all, then Adam Gase would no longer be the head coach of this team. Instead, they released the most talented offensive player on their roster, Le’veon Bell, and are eating tons of dead cap. Miami will dominate this game, and despite Sam Darnold’s best efforts, he will not be able to overcome the parasite of a coach calling in offensive plays.
The Dolphins also looked great against the beat-up 49ers. Their front 7 is really starting to be able to work a pass rush. Then, in the secondary, they have elite players flying all over the field. I see interceptions, sacks, fumbles, and a blowout game incoming.
Chicago Bears
@ Carolina Panthers
The Bears have to be the most disrespected defense in the NFL. They have an elite secondary that has a great CB and safety combo that is hard to rival, a stud and speedy LB core, and Khalil Mack is on the defensive line, the 2nd best D-line player in football. This team will not let Carolina score points in this game, and that makes them an extremely safe play. On top of this, you have the upside of sacks and Teddy Bridgewater fumbles that could lead the Chicago DST to a top 3 week. Do not be scared against an over-performing Panthers team.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Vs Cleveland Browns
The Steelers’ defense, particularly the secondary, has been giving up big points. However, this DST play is all about sacks and turnovers, of which there will be plenty. Mayfield has been a sack and turnover machine over the past couple of years. This is the Steelers’ specialty as a defense. They can stop the run, force long passing downs, and bring the heat. Last week, Wentz escaped pressure and made some dime throws, but Mayfield will not be able to do that. This is a ceiling play, with one of the lower floors of the top 9.
Washington Football Team
@ New York Giants
This offensive line is not that great and they will somehow have to block Montez Sweat and Chase Young coming off the edges. It is ironic that Daniel Jones led the Giants to a victory last year over Washington, which led to Washington being able to get a better pick and draft Young. Now, Young is going to terrorize Jones for that decision. I imagine that Washington can get more than a few sacks in this game and cause one of the interception leaders in the NFL to throw a few more.
Indianapolis Colts
Vs Cincinnati Bengals
The Colts did not play particularly well against a banged-up Browns team. Now they have to face off against a much more fast-paced and modern offense in the Bengals. While Burrow and company had a rough week against Baltimore, that was the best defense in the league. I still believe that the Colts will cause turnovers from the rookie, and get their fair share of sacks with the amount of dropbacks Burrow gets. However, I do not see them as a top 5 play like many others do this week. Still very startable, but do not expect the Colts to win you a week like the Ravens did in Week 5.
New York Giants
Vs The Washington Football Team
While I do believe that the Giants’ offense will be dominated this game, their defense should hold their own against whoever the starting QB is. The Giants have been a surprise this year on the defensive side of the ball. Several players in the secondary have been outstanding, and James Bradberry has been a treat to watch. Meanwhile, Blake Martinez is leading the front 7 and he continues to show why he is one of the best MLBs in the league. The Giants are a complete floor play, they are extremely safe, but I do not see them having a huge week.
