This year, Tyler Lockett (via the Seattle Seahawks Twitter account) stated that “It’s time for me to be able to step up and try to fulfill the role that I’m called to be in this year”. Seahawks fans and his fantasy owners will certainly hope so as many expect him to have a high volume of targets en route to a breakout year.

In 2018, the Seattle Seahawks ranked as the 6th overall offensive unit in the NFL. They were 27th in passing yards but 5th in passing TDs. Though the two don’t correlate, Seattle was able to get great production from their top two receivers. Though their yardage isn’t high, Tyler Lockett and Doug Baldwin were able to reel in a combined 15 TD passes.

Upside

With Doug Baldwin calling it quits, Tyler Lockett remains as the clear #1 option in the passing game and entire offense. Quarterback, Russell Wilson, will certainly find a way to get him the ball and utilize Lockett to the best of his abilities. Last year, the receiver put up 965 receiving yards on the year with 10 TDs. With Baldwin now out of the picture, Lockett will certainly get more attention from both Wilson and the defense. It’s possible that Lockett could reach WR1 status based on the share volume of targets as the main weapon of attack. He could have a 1,200 yard, 12 TD season in store.

Floor

While Baldwin leaving means more targets for Lockett, defenses could also start double teaming him without any other threat on the field, If this is the case, Lockett might not be able to get the open looks he had last year and the production might not be as good. Nevertheless, a 800 yard season with 7 TDs isn’t bad but certainly not what you expected on draft day.

What to Expect

Seattle SeahawksLockett is currently ranked as the 16th wide receiver off the board and holds an auction value of $12. He’s currently projected to have 5th round draft value. As the number 1 receiver in the Seahawks organization, Lockett has the potential to break out which would slot him into round 3 or 4 value. Therefore, a 5th round projection is very favorable for owners who have a chance to draft him in that spot.

The auction value of $12 is also very desirable given his ability to reach top 10-15 wide receiver status. Whatever format you’re drafting in, Lockett presents a great sleep option that could deliver the value of any of the receivers drafted before him. The only concern is that his ceiling and floor are somewhat similar, possibly signaling the variation of his game that you could get. He’ll be a good WR2 option with WR1 upside or a great WR3/FLEX play.

Lockett is somewhat of a wild card this year. Do you expect to get an even better 2018 version of him with Baldwin gone or was 2018 a fluke year? He’s likely worth a good 5th round flier and I’d likely be drafting him as my WR2 if possible. I’d look for a 1,000 yard season with 8 TD receptions for the 5th year receiver.
