Last week, Harrison Butker led the way in scoring among kickers. He made all 4 field goal attempts with one from 50+ and two from 40+. He added 2 extra points to set him over the edge. I will be going through the kickers that I believe you should be starting and sitting. To do this, I mainly look at the defenses that have allowed the most points to kickers regularly as well as how the kicker’s team has used them. Here are my starts and sits at kicker for Week 10.

Start ‘Em

Zane Gonzalez, Arizona Cardinals

Opponent: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Because of the Cardinal’s inability to finish out drives, Gonzalez has been one of the top-scoring fantasy kickers in the league. That is likely to not change this week as they play the Buccaneers. The Bucs have allowed the second-most field goal attempts in the league. They also have allowed the fourth-most extra points, but the real value for kickers comes from field goals. Last week was the first week in which Gonzalez had just one field goal attempt which is likely to never happen again this year, especially not this week.

Justin Tucker, Baltimore Ravens

Opponent: Cincinnati Bengals

Last week, I marked Tucker as a sit since he was playing the Patriots’ defense. While the Ravens kept scoring and scoring, Tucker’s actual usage was minimal as he made 4 extra points and one field goal. Besides that game, he has consistently been getting around 3 field goal attempts per game and has the ability to hit them from beyond 50 yards. The Bengals have allowed the third-most points per game to kicks this season which makes Tucker a must-start.

Matt Gay, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Opponent: Arizona Cardinals

Matt Gay has been one of the top fantasy kickers this season and has received a lot of recent action. He has had 3 field goal attempts in each of the past two weeks, converting on three of them from over 40 yards. The Cardinals have allowed the fifth-most points against them which correlates to a lot of points for kickers. A majority of the points against them are touchdowns, so kickers mainly get extra points, in fact, they have allowed the most extra points in the league. Gay’s recent increased amount of field goal attempts makes him promising this week.

Adam Vinatieri, Indianapolis Colts

Opponent: Miami Dolphins

Adam Vinatieri has been one of the most inconsistent kickers this year. He missed a possible game-winning field goal last week which cost the Colts the game. It’s hard to trust a kicker that fluctuates each week as much as Vinatieri, but the Colts are playing the Dolphins this week. The Dolphins have allowed the most points per game this season which means kickers score a lot against them. They mainly give up touchdowns, but they have given up the fourth-most points to kickers in the league. This makes Vinatieri a more trustworthy start.

Sit ‘Em

Austin Siebert, Cleveland Browns

Opponent: Buffalo Bills

There are two reasons to not touch Austin Siebert this week. One is how poor the Browns have been playing. Last week, he did succeed in making all four of his attempts, the Browns have not looked good this year which has resulted in not many scoring opportunities for Siebert. The second reason is how good the Bills defense is. A surprising stat is their field goals against. They have allowed 12 field goal attempts, but kickers have only converted on 6 of them, making the Bills the best defense against kickers. This is not the week for Siebert.

Jason Myers, Seattle Seahawks

Opponent: San Francisco 49ers

Jason Myers is coming off a rough game where he converted on just two of his four field-goal attempts. This ended up not mattering too much as the Seahawks won in overtime. The 49ers are also a team that doesn’t give up much. They’ve allowed the third-least amount of field goals with just 7 over 8 games. Yes, that is less than one made field goal per game. On top of that, they’ve given up just 9 extra points. In total, they are the third-best defense against kickers which makes me believe that Myers shouldn’t be started.

Younghoe Koo, Atlanta Falcons

Opponent: New Orleans Saints

Younghoe Koo was recently signed by the Falcons when they cut the veteran, Matt Bryant. This will be his first action of the season, so there are a lot of questions in how he will do. This is not going to be a good game for him to go into. The Saints have the third-least field goal attempts against them. This has resulted in them having the sixth-least amount of points against for kickers. The Falcons aren’t likely to make his first game very tough which will keep his point total relatively low this week.

Matt Prater, Detroit Lions

Opponent: Chicago Bears

Matt Prater started the season with a ton of usage, but the Lions have been scoring more and more touchdowns recently which has decreased his points per game. In the past three weeks, he has had just one converted field goal in each game. The Bears do not provide a very good matchup for him to return to his normal big point totals. The Bears have allowed the eighth-lowest points per game to kickers this season. They were rated the best defense in the preseason for a reason and they have yet to disappoint.
