Big Week 9
Yet again, Russell Wilson stood out this week among the rest. He threw all over the Buccaneers’ weak secondary for 378 yards and 5 touchdowns. There was nothing that could stop him on his rampage, yet the Seahawks barely made it by with a win in overtime. Wilson has been the top fantasy quarterback this year and just keeps adding to his monumental season, but it will be more of a challenge this week. The Seahawks face the 49ers who have been the best pass defense in the NFL. Kyler Murray was able to find a way through their defense last week, so Wilson has the ability to put up big numbers again, but it will be tougher.
Injuries
Patrick Mahomes has been out for a couple of weeks now with an injury, but there is a chance of his return this week. Signs are points towards it. Matt Moore has stepped up nicely as his replacement, but the Chiefs aren’t the same without their star quarterback. Next week, the Chiefs take on the Titans. The Titans have generally been a solid defense but they have faltered the past few weeks, letting up at least 20 points in each of their last three games. If Mahomes makes his return, he could have a huge game in his first game back. Jacoby Brissett is also facing an injury that he acquired last week. He left the game early with a sprained MCL. His status is still questionable, but I have him on my list with the chance that he plays. He still has yet to make any statements on his progress, but he remains optimistic. If he were to play, he has a great matchup against the Dolphins who have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season as well as the most total points allowed per game in the NFL. But if Brissett’s injury keeps him out, Brian Hoyer should return back to action. He came into the game and threw for 168 yards with 3 touchdowns. Hoyer would be a great option for Brissett owners.
Good Matchups
Kyler Murray is facing the Buccaneers this week who have allowed the second-most passing yards per game. This plays perfectly into the Cardinals’ schema as they have gone to an air-raid offense. Now with Kenyan Drake added to the mix, Murray’s options abound. Even Andy Isabella made an impact last week with his 88-yard touchdown. The Bucs have averaged over 2 passing touchdowns against them per game which gives Murray a lot of value this week. I would definitely be starting him this week if you own him. Another quarterback with a good matchup for Week 10 is Philip Rivers. The Raiders have allowed the most passing yards per game in the NFL as well as the second-most total passing touchdowns. Hunter Henry’s return has greatly helped the Chargers and Melvin Gordon finally got it going last week. With River’s options heating up, it will be hard for him to not be hot also. Stafford threw for 406 yards and 3 touchdowns last week against the Raiders. There is no reason for Rivers not to put up similar numbers.
Bad Matchups
I mentioned that Russell Wilson is facing a tough matchup, but so is Baker Mayfield. Mayfield has been one of the worst quarterbacks this season which makes no sense with the addition of Odell Beckham Jr. over the offseason. Mayfield has thrown the most interceptions in the NFL along with Jamies Winston and should not be getting any better this week. The Bills have been one the best defenses this year. They have allowed the fourth-least fantasy points to quarterbacks this season and allowed just 5 passing touchdowns all season. There is no reason to start Baker this week. Another quarterback to avoid is Derek Carr. Carr is facing off against the Chargers this week who have allowed the fifth-least passing yards this season. Last week, they limited Aaron Rodgers to 161 yards and one touchdown. The Raiders have allowed the sixth-least amount of fantasy points to quarterbacks. The one flaw they have is the number of passing touchdowns they have allowed with 13. If the Raiders want their offense to be successful, Josh Jacobs will be their answer and not Derek Carr.
