Big Week 10
Christian Kirk led the way this week with a monster game against the Buccaneers, but it was all in a losing effort. Kirk had 6 receptions for 138 yards as well as receiving all three of Kyler Murray’s touchdown passes. The Buccaneers have been the worst defense in terms of covering the pass so it was no surprise that someone on the Cardinals would have a huge game. Kirk will have a much harder time this week against the 49ers. The 49ers are on the complete other end of the pass defense rankings at first place in passing yards allowed per game. The Cardinals just recently played the 49ers two weeks ago in which Kirk led the Cardinals in targets but hauled in just 2 of them for 8 total yards. I doubt that Kirk will ever have that lack-luster of a game again, but there is not a chance that he matches last week’s performance. Expect a step back this week but still startable as the emerging number one receiver on a high pass volume offense. Darius Slayton also stood out last week in his game against the Jets. He hooked up with Daniel Jones 10 times for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns. With Sterling Shepard out, there were questions about who would fill in. Golden Tate has also been a solid option, and quite frankly the better option, but Slayton took over this game. I still wouldn’t consider a very good fantasy option if you look at his previous games in which he has been the number two option. This was the second time all season that he passed 4 receptions in a game. He is very dependant on finding the endzone which makes him a very risky option. The Giants have a bye week this coming week and face the Bears the following week, so there is no reason to touch him for a while, but it is worth noting that he has two multi-touchdown games this season. If you are going to grab a Giants’ receiver, I would snatch up Golden Tate if he happens to be available, otherwise move on to a different team with a better offense.
Good Matchups
Michael Thomas is set to go absolutely off this week. With 5 games over 100 yards this season, he has no doubt been the best fantasy receiver this season. Even when he doesn’t score a touchdown, which he hasn’t done much, he still puts up extremely high numbers with mostly double-digit receptions each game. Thomas and the Saints play the worst pass defense in the league this week, the Buccaneers. Just last week, Christian Kirk had 138 yards and 3 touchdowns against them. With Thomas’s skills abilities, he has the potential to possibly get up to 200 yards. I wouldn’t be surprised in that reality. If you are looking for waiver wire adds, look at the Bengals’ receivers this week. They have a great matchup this week against the Raiders. The Raiders have allowed the third-most passing yards per game and the second-most passing touchdowns. A.J. Green still doesn’t know when he will return to action, so players like Auden Tate have been able to get increased action. He is currently only owned in 27.6% of leagues. From recent news, it doesn’t seem like Green is ready to return but that will be more clear as practices start. If Green were to miss yet another game, Tate would be a great pickup this week.
Bad Matchups
I mentioned earlier that Kirk has a touch matchup and that goes for Larry Fitzgerald too. Another player to be careful with is Alshon Jeffery. I would maybe go as far as to say that I would keep him on the bench this week. In the Eagles past two matchups, they have played two strong defenses in the Bills and the Bears. In each, Jeffery got 4 receptions for 64 and 36 yards. As seen through Jeffery’s volume against tough defenses, it is not great. I don’t think much will change this week against the Patriots who have been the best defense in the league. The Eagles’ offense is not good enough to be able to back up Jeffery to allow him to get much which is why I would leave him on the bench this week. Stefon Diggs also finds himself in a tough situation against the Bills this week. The one plus for Diggs is that Adam Thielen will likely miss yet another game with his hamstring injury, leaving Diggs with more targets, but those targets may be limited this coming week. The Bills have allowed the third-least amount of passing yards per game. The past two weeks, Diggs has had just 4 total receptions with 53 total yards. I wouldn’t sit him because his upside is so high with Thielen being out, but he is more of a riskier start this coming week.
