Last week’s fantasy kicker projections were pretty accurate. Eight of the ten kickers I predicted to have top ten output actually landed on the top ten list. While Justin Tucker and Josh Lambo fell short of expectations, Will Lutz, Younghoe Koo, Matt Prater, Brett Maher, and Joey Slye all met or came close to their expected rankings. This week, there are three fantastic fantasy kicker gems to stuff into your fantasy lineup.
Justin Tucker
As I said last week, Justin Tucker is the most reliable and most accurate placekicker in fantasy football. With the Baltimore Ravens averaging the most points in the league, Justin Tucker is constantly kicking a high number of extra points. In fact, he currently leads the league in PAT attempts and conversions, meaning that his ceiling is higher than most kickers. This week Tucker and the Ravens take on a San Francisco team is currently holding opponents to the lowest TD conversion percentage in the red zone. This means that either the Ravens will overpower the Niners defense, and Tucker will generate PATs, or Tucker will spend most of the day kicking field goals. Either way, you can expect Tucker to be the best kicker in the league, regardless of his matchup.
Harrison Butker
Harrison Butker is a great fantasy kicker with a tremendously high ceiling. Butker currently has the most fantasy points amongst all placekickers this season. Moreover, he is on a Kansas City Chiefs team that ranks in the top five in terms of points per game, so he consistently has a high number of PATs. This week, the Chiefs are taking on a Raiders defense that is allowing the ninth most points per game, so Butker is primed to be a terrific day for fantasy owners.
Josh Lambo
Last week marked the first field goal Josh Lambo kicked (and made) of over fifty yards. Lambo is one of only two NFL kickers holding a field goal and a PAT percentage of over 95%. This week, Lambo and the Jags take on a Buccaneers defense that is allowing the second-most points per game to opponents, which indicates that Lambo will have a busy day kicking PATs or FGs. As a result, he is a safe option for fantasy owners in week 13.
Younghoe Koo
Despite only playing in three games this season, Younghoe Koo is averaging the most fantasy points amongst kickers this season. He is also averaging the most made field goals amongst placekickers this season, making him a great fantasy gem. Without Austin Hooper potentially Julio Jones, the Falcons will lean on Younghoe Koo in order to keep the game competitive. Consequently, Koo is a quality fantasy option this week.
Zane Gonzalez
Zane Gonzalez has been one of the best fantasy and real-life placekickers in the NFL. He is currently tied for the fourth-most fantasy points amongst kickers this season. Moreover, Gonzalez and the Arizona Cardinals are averaging the most field-goal tries in the NFL this season. Plus, the Cards a top ten team in terms of points per game over the previous three weeks. All this put together indicates that you’d be crazy to leave Gonzalez on the bench this Sunday.
Will Lutz
Will Lutz is one of only five NFL kickers with over 100 fantasy points this season. As of right now, the Saints are a top ten team in terms of points per game this year. Resultantly, Lutz and the Saints are averaging the fifth most field goal attempts this season. This week, New Orleans heads to Atlanta to take on a Falcons secondary that is getting shredded on a weekly basis. Therefore, Lutz is a must-start kicker who will have a lot of opportunities to score in week 13.
Matt Gay
Matt Gay has been a top-five fantasy kicker this season. In fact, he is one of only six NFL kickers that is averaging 9.4+ fantasy points this year. Moreover, Gay has is tied for the most made field goals of 40+ yards, which means that Gay has a high likelihood of converting those long field goals. Tampa Bay is averaging the third-most points per game, which means that Gay’s ceiling will be higher than the average NFL kicker. Therefore, you can expect him to be productive against Jacksonville.
Chris Boswell
Chris Boswell is one of the best fantasy kicker gems this season. Even though Pittsburgh’s offense has been lackluster this season, Boswell has been a top ten fantasy option for owners. Without a solid QB like Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers have needed to rely on their placekicker to keep them in tight contests. Fortunately, Boswell has come in handy with a 90% FG percentage and 100% PAT percentage. His ceiling isn’t as high as other kickers, but he is a great option for fantasy owners looking to get a few points over their opponents.
Brett Maher
Brett Maher is a top fantasy kicker with a high ceiling this Thanksgiving weekend. Maher and the Cowboys are presently ranking in the top ten in terms of field goal attempts per game this season. Brett Maher has the longest field goal conversion this season, which means that he can always hit from long range in any given game. This Thursday, Maher is competing against a Buffalo Bills defense that has improved at holding red zone trips to FGs in recent weeks. Therefore, he is a risky but worthwhile fantasy bet in week 13.
Chase McLaughlin
Last week, Chase McLaughlin was tied for the most fantasy points and has been a fantasy gem this season. With Robbie Gould doubtful in week 13, McLaughlin continues to be the Niners’ placekicker. Moreover, McLaughlin has been more productive and accurate than Gould was before his injury, with a FG percentage 10 points higher than Robbie’s. San Francisco is currently averaging the third-most field goals in the NFL, which means that McLaughlin is always ready for a big outing. This week, McLaughlin and the Niners will compete against a Baltimore team that holds opponents to the lowest TD conversion percentage in the red zone. So expect McLaughlin to be a busy man on Sunday.
