Week 15 QB Rankings & Fantasy Stats: Baker Mayfield’s Rebound Week

Drew Brees went absolutely off against the 49ers’ defense, who had been and still is the best pass defense in the league. With six total touchdowns and 349 passing yards, it is hard to see how the Saints still managed to lose the game. On the other side of the field, Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 349 yards also, but only 4 touchdowns plus an interception. Brees was the better quarterback, but Garoppolo snuck out with the win. With some crazy games for quarterbacks this week, it will be interesting to see how Week 15 shapes up. I will be giving my quarterback rankings plus projections with some analysis on who to look out for in the coming matchups. Here are my Week 15 quarterback rankings.

Week 15 QB Rankings

Big Week 14

Jamies Winston continues to amaze me. He has thrown the most interceptions in the league by a significant margin, yet he continues to throw without fear and ends up with insane games. This week he had 456 passing yards with four touchdowns on top of a rushing touchdown. His 3 interceptions put a bad mark on the game overall but he managed to lead his team to victory nonetheless. His next game against the Lions should follow this up nicely as they are one of the worst defenses in the NFL against the pass. Mike Evans is likely to miss the game which will hinder Winston a tad, but guys like Chris Godwin and Breshad Perriman will be enough for him to explode this week. Mitchell Trubisky had the game of his season so far with four total touchdowns and 244 passing yards and 63 rushing yards. The Cowboys’ defense had been very consistent against the pass up to that point, but Trubisky managed to find the holes and connect with Allen Robinson and Anthony Miller for his touchdowns. The Bears’ next game will be another test against the Packers. They are a more favorable matchup against the pass so Trubisky could find some success for a third straight week.

Out of Nowhere

Drew Lock surprised the nation with his second start for the Broncos. He now stands at 2-0 with a struggling Broncos’ team and has given them a boost of energy. Last week, he threw for 309 yards with three touchdowns as the Broncos roared passed the Texans. In his two games, he now has five total touchdowns with just two interceptions and is looking like he could finish out the Broncos’ season as the starting quarterback. The next matchup for the Broncos is against the Chiefs who have been more susceptible to letting up big run plays. It may be more of a week off for Lock but who knows as Mahomes is likely to get the Chiefs ahead early, leading the Broncos to throw more.

Good Matchups

Baker Mayfield stands out with his matchup against the Cardinals who possess the worst pass defense in the league. Mayfield didn’t need to do much in last week’s game against the Bengals since Nick Chubb took over that game, but this serves as his opportunity to show the world what he is capable of. The Cardinals are particularly bad at covering tight ends. With David Njoku back, Mayfield has the opportunity to take advantage of that and create some big plays. Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry also serve as excellent sources of mass production through the air. I already talked about Jamies Winston’s matchup but on the other side of the ball in that game is David Blough who has been decent in his two starts for the Lions. He has hit the 200-yard mark in both and has three touchdowns but also three interceptions. Both of his starts have been against tough defenses, but this week that changes as he faces the second-worst pass defense in the league. The Buccaneers have been among the worst all season long which gives Blough a great chance to break out. He has just three games left with tougher matchups left, so this would be his time to have a big game if he ever will.

Bad Matchups

Matt Ryan stands out as a quarterback to shy away from this week. The 49ers got lit up by Drew Brees last week, but that is a once in a season type of game. The 49ers have stood as the top defense against the pass most of the season and for good reason. With Calvin Ridley out, it only hurts Ryan’s value even more for this week. I would not risk him this week especially in the heat of the fantasy playoffs. There are far better quarterbacks to pick up. Josh Allen had a rough time last week against the Ravens in which he had just 146 yards passing and one touchdown. He faces yet another tough matchup this week against the Steelers who rank fifth in passing yards against per game. The Steelers’ run defense is even among the better in the league so it will be hard for him to use his legs as well. This is a scenario to avoid him and not take an unnecessary risk that has only a bit of upside.
