Tight ends broke out in Week 1, especially one of the highly touted rookies, named T.J. Hockenson. It was also nice to see Delanie Walker back in action after tearing his Achilles last season. He had two touchdowns, as the Titans rolled over Cleveland. It was also no surprise to see Evan Engram continue his breakout without Odell Beckham. It was more of a disappointing fantasy football week for the highly drafted tight ends, but we shouldn’t panic just yet. Below is the Week 2 rankings for PPR and their projected fantasy points and overall season stats on a per game basis. You can all find all our NFL Waiver Wire pickups and adds in one place each week.

Week 2 Studs
No surprise to see the usual big four up top, and they also have enticing matchups. Travis Kelce saw eight targets, and would have had a touchdown if Patrick Mahomes wasn’t trying a no look pass like he was the starting point guard for the Lakers. Kelce is going to be a top ranked tight end most weeks given the volume and offensive production the Chiefs put up. With Tyreek Hill out, Kelce should also pick up a few extra targets. George Kittle saw ten targets last week, catching eight of them for 54 yards. Jimmy Garoppolo struggled with efficiency, and actually just looked flat out bad. The Bengals were are team that struggled against tight ends last season, allowing an 84-986-10 line. I don’t expect much to change for the Bengals defense, especially against the pass.
The Falcons were middle of the road against tight ends last season, and there was some concern for Zach Ertz this season and his potential volume with all the new additions. There might be fuel to the fire with Ertz getting seven targets in Week 1 against Washington, but he is still a top tier tight end. With this potential shootout underway in Atlanta, Ertz is a strong play. Evan Engram stole the show this week with 14 targets, going for an 11-116-1 line. Engram has had a strong showing when Odell Beckham was injured, and now out of town, he is already starting. With no Golden Tate, and a team likely to trail most weeks, Engram should join Kittle and Kelce in that elite tier. I would also not be surprised to see Engram finish in the top two spots come season’s end.
Tight End Streamers For Week 2
The obvious pick ups were going to be TJ Hockenson, Mark Andrews, and Darren Waller, and those are not streamers. If they are for some reason out there, grab them and run with them. They are every week starters for me. If you are in a league where someone dropped Vance McDonald, pick him up. I know his four target game, where he had two catches for 40 yards looks mediocre, but there are positives behind it. He ran 30 routes, and was on the field for about 70% of the snaps. These are the three names if people are sleeping in your home leagues.
Tyler Eifert is out there in about every league, which makes sense given he has not been durable the last few seasons. The positive is that he saw six targets in Week 1, and caught five for 27 yards. The other positive is that he was out there only has a receiving tight end, he only spent three of his 30 snaps blocking, and the rest were on routes. He is not the worst dart throw if you are in need of a tight end. Mike Gesicki saw six targets in the Week 1 blowout against the Ravens. He caught just two of them for 31 yards, producing 5.1 fantasy points in PPR. The plus side of the Dolphins being so bad is that they are going to be throwing a ton, even though the quarterback play is going to be below average. Chances are you don’t need to dive this low for Eifert and Gesicki, but for some reason if you do, these are deeper names.
Tough Matchups
While I like Evan Engram regardless of matchup, it is something to note that the Bills have given up the fewest amount of fantasy points to tight ends since last season. The Colts tight end situation is something I am avoiding. For one, the split workload with Jack Doyle and Eric Ebron is already a bad look for upside. They will face a tough defense, as the Titans are allowing the second fewest fantasy points since last season. The Packers-Vikings games is overall not a game that should produce loads of fantasy points, and if it does, it will be the stud fantasy options. Minnesota has allowed the sixth fewest fantasy points to tight ends since last season. Green Bay is not that far behind. Jimmy Graham is already a touchdown dependent option, and Kyle Rudolph is a low volume option in a run heavy offense.
Bounce Back Week For Jared Cook
After seeing just three targets in Week 1, there might be some concern for Jared Cook. He gets another enticing matchup against the Rams, who allowed the 9th most fantasy points to tight ends last season. While it was a long time ago, he destroyed the Rams in Week 1 of 2018 with a 9-180-0 line on 12 targets. The Saints-Rams game projects to be a shootout, and Cook was at least used as the downfield threat in Week 1. Unfortunately Ted Ginn took some of that volume and production away. I wouldn’t bank on this being a regular thing. Start with confidence this week.
