Week 3 saw two standout stars, one was completely unexpected. Every week there is usually one quarterback that will surprise us all and outperform expectations by a ton. This is almost impossible to predict but by looking at matchups and past week performances, there can be educated guesses. This article goes over my quarterback rankings going into Week 4 and who has the best chances to break out this week.

Biggest Chance To Breakout

Philip Rivers is set up in a perfect matchup. The Dolphins have one of the worst passing defenses in the league. They have given up 10 passing touchdowns through 3 weeks which is an NFL worst. Rivers has 5 touchdowns on the season with an average of just above 300 yards per game. With Melvin Gordon still holding out, the Chargers have relied on Rivers to move the offense. With options like Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Austin Ekeler, Rivers and the Chargers are set up for a big week this week.

Surprise Of Week 3

Daniel Jones surprised everyone this week in the 2nd half of the Giants’ game against the Buccaneers. In the first start of his career, Jones and the Giants did not look very good. Jones did have a rushing touchdown but followed that up with fumble two drives later. The 2nd half is where Jones really turned up. After being down by 18, he led the Giants into the endzone on their first and second drives, throwing touchdowns to Evan Engram and Sterling Shepard. After a couple of failed drives and another fumble, Jones took control and drove the Buccaneers’ defense back and back, ending with another rushing touchdown that ended up being the game-winning drive. Jones ended with 336 passing yards and two touchdowns plus 28 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Needless to say, Daniel Jones has asserted himself as a valuable quarterback and we could see more of that coming in future weeks. He is a very good pickup this week as the Giants are set to play the Redskins who are ranked 7th to last in terms of passing yards allowed per game.

Tough Matchups

The Patriots at Bills matchup will likely be a very defensive battle this week. For Josh Allen, he will have to somehow figure out how to beat the Patriots coverage. No team has been able to figure them out this season. The Jets only managed to score on defense last week against them. Allen has made his abilities known so far this year, leading the Bills to a 3-0 record for the first time since 2011. To add another win, he will have to work some magic to score on the Patriots’ brick wall. The other way around is almost the same. Tom Brady has also led the Patriots to a 3-0 record but this has become the norm for him. The Bills should be the Patriots real first test, facing a defense ranked 6th in points allowed. This is a huge game for both teams as it will set the stage up for who will win the AFC East but this will most likely be determined by which defense steps up the most. I would be careful with starting either of these quarterbacks this week. I do have one quarterback that is available in most leagues who has a better chance to score big this week.

Pickup Of The Week

After Andrew Luck’s retirement, many Colts’ fans had given up hope and were heard complaining and complaining before Jacoby Brissett even had a chance to do anything. Well, he has proven them all wrong with how he has managed to play this year. After losing a close game to the Chargers in overtime, he has led the Colts to a 2-1 start with a big win over the Falcons last week. This week should be a free-flowing week for the Colts as they face up against the Raiders. The past two weeks have been miserable for Raiders’ fans as they have been blown out by the Chiefs and Vikings. Brissett is currently owned in just 19.3% of leagues. Daniel Jones is a good pick up this week as well, but if you want a quarterback that has proven himself across multiple games, Brissett is an excellent pick up this week.

I started playing fantasy football in 2010 at 12 years old where I subbed in for an owner who was having a baby. That year I won the championship in a 16-team league, carried by Arian Foster and Michael Vick. I have yet to bring a trophy home since then, but my love for fantasy football has grown, delving more and more in the statistics and finding ways to improve my drafting ability.
