Week 5 NFL Defense (DEF) Fantasy Football Rankings: Stats & Projections

The Giants took care of business, and were the top fantasy football defense this week. On a somewhat twisted week of football, New England took care of business as Josh Allen struggled at home. Although The Patriots did allow their first touchdown of the season, finally. The Bears and Seahawks also projected well this week, and did well following them. There were some surprise defenses, such as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and my Rams defense flopped at home. The Broncos and Ravens were also other big defenses that flopped this week. Week 5 Team Defense Rankings, Stats, Projection

Week 5 Top Options

No surprise to see the Bears defense project as the highest scoring, although there is not a ton of separation from the big three this week. Oakland’s offense has remained stagnant through the first few weeks, and Khalil Mack will have a welcome back party against this offensive line. Overall this has been a big time defense that will eat a lackluster Oakland offense alive. New England will once again endure a poor offense as the Redskins will welcome the Patriots. They will likely be trailing from behind most of the game, and Case Keenum has been fairly turnover happy. They also do not have a ground game to give them any sort of balance. New England is next in line after the Bears.

Baltimore goes on the road to a divisional rival, but for the first time in a long time they won’t have to match up with big offensive weapons. Mason Rudolph will have a tough turnaround against a Ravens defense, and Baltimore has been stout against the run. Minnesota is on the road, making five of the first six ranked on the road this week. While Daniel Jones looks to be a solid quarterback, this is his first real defensive test. Buffalo, Philadelphia, and Tennessee all round out as top ten options this week. The Chargers hopefully can keep the momentum going after a poor fantasy start to the season for the defense. If they can’t capitalize on another strong matchup, they will be dropped in the rankings.

Streaming Options

There are not a ton of great streaming options this week, so hopefully you are not in the hunt for a plug and play. Philadelphia is priority number one when it comes to streaming this week. After being dropped by most teams, they are now around the 40% marked as far as being owned. They get the Jets, and with or without Sam Darnold this is not an offense that scares me, especially through the air where Philadelphia struggles. However, if you are The Tennessee Titans would be the second team I look at. They are about 50% owned around all sites. Buffalo is an offense that is going to hinder on game management compared to putting up big points. The Titans are a strong defense, and this projects to be one of the lower scoring games on the slate. If you need to look deeper, Cleveland is not a bad look against a San Francisco offense that has struggled for the most part this season.

Top Defenses To Sit This Week

We can get the obvious out of the way, as you might have leaned on the Colts last week against Oakland. But, we can easily send them back to the free agent pool with a matchup against the Chiefs this week. The Jets are a defense I will be sitting this week, as they take on the Eagles on the road. Philadelphia is moving the ball with ease, and while I like the Jets offense as a whole, their injuries have burned them the last few weeks. After a strong start to the season, Green Bay finally were figured out. They have a great secondary, but are getting beat bad by the run. Ezekiel Elliot will welcome them at home this week, so I will be passing on them for a defense with higher upside. The Rams are another team I tend to sit defenses against, and even at home, Seattle is likely going to be a team struggling to generate fantasy points against this squad.
