Luckily we dodged a week of major injuries, but overall the waiver wire is pretty mediocre right now. Bye weeks are going to start to piling up soon, as we have four this week. Buffalo, Chicago, Indianapolis, and Oakland are all on byes for Week 6. Keep an eye on teams dropping players to fill spots, as there could be some key names to hit the waiver wire. Be sure to catch all our Week 6 rankings and fantasy football advice.
Jacoby Brissett – QB – Indianapolis Colts
Average Ownership: 56%, FAAB: $5
Jacoby Brissett is the quarterback I want out of the guys that are lesser owned around the industry. The Colts defense is not going to be stopping offenses given the injuries over the next few weeks, and that will be a plus for the game script. It also seems that T.Y. Hilton has avoided an injury. Indianapolis will also host the Broncos and Texans over the next two weeks, before taking on the Steelers and Dolphins. This is a good stretch for the Colts passing attack. He will be on bye next week, so you might not need to rush out.
Diontae Johnson – WR – Pittsburgh Steelers
Average Ownership: 17%, FAAB: $3
We will need to keep an eye on James Washington’s injury, which could free up a few extra targets to go around. The Steelers offense has fallen apart, and they are likely down to their third back at least for this upcoming week. Since entering the starting lineup, Diontae Johnson has seen 20 targets, catching 14 of them. He has two touchdowns on the season, and the targets should continue for the rookie wideout. Johnson is a strong waiver wire grab, and should remain viable when it comes to volume throughout the rest of the season. The downside here is the quarterback play is going to be subpar through the rest of the season.
Auden Tate – WR – Cincinnati Bengals
Average Ownership: 10%, FAAB: $2
AJ Green is getting closer to a return, but John Ross will be out for a while. There is also a chance AJ Green gets traded once he is healthy. With Ross shelved, and Green out, Auden Tate is a name to pick up. He has produced 22 targets over the last three games. The Bengals are going to continue to find themselves in favorable passing scenarios, as the defense is just horrendous. Tate is a nice grab, and should operate as the number two wideout in this offense, and three at worst once Green returns. Cincinnati is also leaning heavily towards their wideouts compared to tight ends in previous years.
Chris Herndon – TE – New York Jets
Average Ownership: 11%, FAAB: $5
Chris Herndon didn’t get picked up, but this will be the week he takes a massive jump in ownership. Week 5 was his fourth game, so he will be eligible to return. The positive is also Sam Darnold is going to be returning soon. They had an excellent connection down the stretch last season. Tight end has been a lifeless position for the most part this season, so here is your chance to get some production. Herndon finished last season with a 39-502-4 line, and had 56 targets. Most of this game in the second half, as he had just nine target through the first six games of the season.
Mohamed Sanu – WR – Atlanta Falcons
Average Ownership: 43%, FAAB: $3
Atlanta’s passing attack is going to be in heavy use for the rest of the season. For one they cannot stop anyone, leading to a lot of positive game scripts for the passing game. Two, the offense is struggling to run the ball behind a struggling and injured offensive line. The Falcons are going to have some weeks where the names miss out, as they have about 4-5 passing game options. Mohamed Sanu has seen viable targets over the first five weeks, with 6, 7, 6, 12, and 5. He has 5+ catches in four of the first five weeks, and has just one game under double digit fantasy points in PPR leagues.
Cole Beasley – WR – Buffalo Bills
Average Ownership: 27%, FAAB: $3
It was going to be a tough week for Cole Beasley against a good Tennessee defense, but he is still a cheap PPR guy to consider in deeper leagues. His targets over the first five weeks are 9, 4, 10, 12, and 3. He has posted three double-digit weeks out of the five so far. Josh Allen continues to look his way underneath. Buffalo will face Miami twice, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Washington over the next five weeks. All are plus matchups for the Bills passing attack. With Bye Weeks looming heavy, Beasley can be a FLEX or WR3 plug and play.
Green Bay Packers – D/ST
Average Ownership: 38%, FAAB: $0
Rarely will I put a defense in this article, but the Green Bay Packers are a great pick up if you are looking for a viable defense over the next few weeks. Their rush defense needs a lot of work, but they have one of the best pass defenses in the NFL. They are home against the Lions and Raiders over the next two weeks, which are plus matchups for them. They will take on Kansas City the week following, which is an obvious sit, but then things set up pretty. They will then face the Chargers, Panthers, 49ers, Giants, Redskins, Bears, Vikings, and Lions. They have been a middle of the road fantasy defense so far, but things set up well moving forward.
