Week 7 NFL Defense (DEF) Fantasy Football Rankings: Buffalo Bills Face The Pop Warner Jets

Week 7 Team Defense Rankings & Projection

Coming off some big Week 6 performances, a few teams were able to dodge facing those high scoring offenses. The Steelers and Buccaneers both put up a monster number as they both had pick-sixes to their name. The Broncos, Giants, Dolphins, and Bears were the other teams to put up big numbers this week. Washington and Baltimore both had average numbers as we expected better given the matchup. Looking at Week 7 you have a few strong matchups for defenses. Buffalo takes on the Jets, and at this rate, you can just expect any defense to be inside the top three for rankings against the Jets. Dallas has a chance to finally put up a decent score against Washington, and the Chargers get to welcome the Jaguars. You will have to search for some streamers this week with the Colts and Ravens on bye, and possibly Miami if you picked them up for this week.

Week 7 Top Options

Buffalo BillsThe Los Angeles Rams are in a great spot this week, as they will go up against the Chicago Bears. Chicago might be a 5-1 team but it is not because of their offense and Nick Foles hasn’t been shy about turning the ball over either. This is an offense that ranks 26th in DVOA as they rank 26th in both run and pass offense categories. The Rams have held teams just 18 points per game this season and have dominated against the pass. Opposing quarterbacks are averaging just 6.2 yards per attempt. With Aaron Donald leading the way this season they also have 20 sacks on the year. Everything about this defense is coming together despite some newer names and a transition over the last few seasons.

Buffalo hasn’t exactly had the strongest start to the season defensively as they have struggled with injuries but we have also seen teams put up some points in garbage time against them. New York‘s offense remains a league-worst and I am questioning if this is one of the worst teams in NFL history? They are averaging less than 15 points per game this season and the pass offense has been abysmal regardless of who is under center. They are averaging a combined 176 passing yards per game. This is also an offensive line that ranks bottom ten in pass protection. The Bills pass rush has been a bit lackluster but this is a matchup where they can thrive in.

Now the Raiders are coming off a bye week and the offense has been a good one. However, the Buccaneers defense is playing at an unreal level and when they are able to shut down the ground game, it puts big-time pressure on the opposing offenses. They usually do shut down the ground game, which doesn’t bode well for Josh Jacobs this week. This Buccaneers defense has been top five against the run dating back to last season and now the pass defense is starting to catch up.

Los Angeles ChargersNow the Dallas Cowboys (22%) defense is not a good one, but playing Washington has made about every defense fantasy-viable. That is the case this week. Washington continues to have its turnover issues and a bottom-three offensive line that has allowed over 20 sacks this season. While Dallas will likely still allow a few touchdowns, the chance of a touchdown or a multiple-sack game is there. Washington is in the bottom ten in fantasy points allowed to opposing defenses this season. Staying in the NFC East, the Giants will travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles (14%). Both teams have been severely banged up this season and are both fighting for the NFC East. The Giants are in the bottom five in points allowed to opposing defenses this season. They have one of the lower implied totals as expected and the Eagles defense gets to face a Daniel Jones offense that continues to turn the ball over at a high rate.

The Kansas City Chiefs (37%) will have a short week but get to face the Broncos, who also rank inside the bottom five in fantasy points allowed to opposing defenses. There isn’t much firepower on this Denver side anymore given the injuries and that should help with a Chiefs defense that has struggled a bit of late. I like the upside here given the Chiefs can jump out to a lead and force the young Drew Lock to throw a bit more. The Los Angeles Chargers (20%) are at home facing the Jaguars, who have failed to put up more than two touchdowns in three out of six weeks this season. While the Chargers are banged up they still have plenty of playmakers who can take advantage this week.

Defenses To Avoid

Cleveland BrownsWhile the Bengals are an enticing offense to target, this offense has been moving the ball well through the air. This is an area where the Browns defense has struggled. Now Cleveland has a chance for some sack upside but they allowed 30 points to this offense a few weeks ago and failed to really frustrate Burrow. I won’t be going back to the well there as there are plenty of defenses to use this week. The matchup ratings will all look good, but the Bengals like they did this past week can spring points on you in a hurry. The Denver Broncos were a streaming defense for me this past week and they are now a defense to drop as they will face the Kansas City Chiefs. To state the obvious, you should never start defenses against them.

Now the New Orleans Saints have struggled for most of the season on the defensive side and for those still clinging onto them it is time to cut loose. They face Carolina this week who have a strong offense and should be able to put up some points. Opposing defenses are averaging just 3.6 fantasy points against them on the season. This has one of those classic NFC South shootouts written all over it and I will avoid a Saints defense that has struggled for most of the season.
