The week 9 bye will see the Atlanta Falcons, Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Rams, and New Orleans Saints absent this week. Players from every position like Alvin Kamara, Devonta Freeman, Michael Thomas, Joe Mixon, Todd Gurley, Cooper Kupp, and Austin Hooper among other will be missing from you lineup. If you are an owner of one of these players and are looking for someone to pick-up for the week and fill any holes your roster might have going into week 9 this article lists the most valuable waiver wire pick-ups for week 9. I have also listed players that are safe to drop to the waiver wire in exchange. This is written for a 12-person 0.5 PPR league format. All statistics used in this article can be found at our website https://www.lineups.com/nfl.
Who to Pick up:
WR Danny Amendola (DET) vs. OAK – 10% Rostered
During week 8 Amendola caught all 8 of his targets for 95 yards, averaging 11.9 yards per reception against the Giants. In the past two games Amendola has seen 19 targets, catching 16 of them for 200 yards during those 2 weeks. Amendola has seemingly taken over the role that was vacated last year by Golden Tate. While Golden Tate was in that role, he averaged 93 catches for 1,056 yards and just under 5 touchdowns per season. While Amendola has not been that efficient all season long, he has been able to reach 100+ yards twice this season. Facing the Oakland Raiders in week 9, who rank 27th against opposing fantasy receivers, Amendola is primed to keep this streak of underrated fantasy performances going.
TE Dallas Goedert (PHI) vs. CHI – 32.1% Rostered
The backup tight-end who has been outperforming the highly drafted and fantasy adored tight-end Zach Ertz did it again. Scoring his 3rd touchdown of the season so far, Goedert has been a favorite red-zone target for Carson Wentz. Goedert even out-targeted Ertz during week 8, receiving 21% of the target share. Seeing 75% of the snaps on offense, Goedert is definitely an important piece of this Philadelphia offense. Opposing defenses are seemingly keying onto Zach Ertz after that record setting season he had last year. Going up against the Chicago Bears’ defense that ranks 21st against opposing fantasy tight-ends, Goedert is looking to keep this production up through week 9.
WR Demarcus Robinson (KC) vs. 24.8% Rostered
Robinson has cemented his place in this Kansas City Chiefs offense, now that everyone is back and healthy in the receiver room Robinson still saw 64% of the snaps during week 8. While Moore is still under center, he proved to be a worthy replacement, throwing for 267 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Green Bay Packers defense in week 8. The Vikings rank 21st against opposing fantasy receivers, giving way for Robinson to have a productive week 9. Robinson is also a valuable pick up for when Mahomes returns from his injury, which may be sooner rather than later.
QB Derek Carr (OAK) vs. DET – 21.1% Rostered
Coming off his first 3-touchdown performance of this season, Carr threw for 285 yards and 0 interceptions during week 8. Finally getting his number 1 receiver in Tyrell Williams back from injury during week 8, Carr achieved his best QBR this season of 125.0. Carr’s average yards per attempt ranks 9th on the season so far at 7.6 yards per attempt. Detroit ranks 26th against opposing quarterbacks through this season, giving up the 8th most passing yards this season and nearly 2 passing touchdowns per game. Carr is set to be a low-end QB1 this week against the Detriot Lions.
Who to Drop:
RB Chase Edmonds (ARI) vs. SF – 80.4% Rostered
After trading for former Miami Dolphins running-back Kenyan Drake, he is likely to lead this backfield during Thursday night’s Game against Arizona. Chase Edmonds suffered a hamstring injury and is listed as doubtful for Thursday’s game. With the acquisition of Drake and Johnson healing from his ankle injury, there is little reason to have Edmonds rostered. He is best left on the waiver wire for the remainder of the season.
WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (GB) vs. LAC – 59.4% Rostered
Seeing just 7 targets in the past 3 games, Valdes-Scantling is a risky play any given week. With Davante Adams likely to return during week 9, Valdes-Scantling could be seeing even less of the targets from Aaron Rodgers. Playing 62% of the snaps during week 8, and only 33% during week 7. And being over taken by Allen Lazard and Geronimo Allison in the depth chart. Valdes-Scantling is a not worth rostering this week against the Chargers solid pass defense.
RB Tarik Cohen (CHI) vs. PHI – 73% Rostered
It seems that David Montgomery has nearly fully taken over the backfield in Chicago after Montgomery saw 31 touches, 27 rushes and 4 receptions, against the Chargers defense. Cohen has failed to reach double digit fantasy points this season in 0.5 PPR formats. Ranking 44th among fantasy running-backs so far this season, Cohen has truly fallen from his RB1 status in PPR formats last year. Cohen’s snap count fell to 21% during week 8 against the Chargers. He is best left on the waiver wire going forward.
