A sad reality in fantasy football is that sometimes, the star receiver you drafted just can’t perform. Whether it’s a bad matchup, lack of involvement, or just a case of the drops. We all deal with it. Every receiver is bound to bust at some time or another. In this article I will be providing some of the receivers you should try to keep out of your lineup this week. All statistics found in this article can be found at our website https://www.lineups.com/nfl.

WR Stefon Diggs (MIN) vs DAL:

Diggs had seemingly broken out during week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles, scoring 40 total fantasy points in 0.5 PPR formats. From there he was a steady performer for a few weeks, scoring 17.8 in week 7 and 15.8 in week 8. He was targeted 26 times during those 3 weeks. Catching 7 balls in each of those games for 140+ yards in each game. He was the new fantasy darling. However, all of those performances were against lackluster defenses like the Eagles, Lions, and Redskins. Once Diggs faced a formattable defense in the Kansas City Chiefs, who rank 7th against opposing fantasy wide receivers, he struggled again. Catching 1 of 5 targets for 4 yards, totaling just 2.1 fantasy points. Facing another tough opponent in the Dallas Cowboys in week 10 who rank 5th against opposing fantasy wide receivers, Diggs will continue to struggle. The Cowboys have allowed the 6th fewest yards per completion, 4th fewest passing touchdowns, 5th fewest passing yards, and the 5th fewest yards per attempt. Not to mention Kirk Cousins infamous inability to perform during prime-time games. For the fantasy players hoping for a bounce back game, don’t. Diggs is best left on the bench this week against the Cowboys.

WR Odell Beckham Jr (CLE) vs. BUF:

Star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has had a struggling season so far with the Browns. To no fault of Beckham’s, the Browns passing offense has struggled overall. Baker Mayfield has averaged a QBR of 71.3 this season, ranking 2nd worst in the league behind Sam Darnold. Mayfield also has the lowest completion percentage in the league against active QBs with 58.7%, he is also tied with Jameis Winston for the most interceptions this season with 12 interceptions. Beckham is likely to face star cornerback Tre’Davious White in coverage this week. White is tied for 3rd against other DB’s for most interceptions so far this season with 3. The lack of consistent production, tough matchup against Tre’Davious White, and Cleveland’s lackluster offensive production ranking 10th worst in the league makes Odell Beckham a bust this week.

WR Tyler Lockett (SEA) vs. SF:

Lockett just came off of his second straight 100-yard+ receiving game against the Buccaneers, catching his 5th and 6th touchdowns of the season. Lockett has been productive all season long with current MVP-favorite quarterback Russel Wilson. However, the Seahawks have seen some lackluster secondaries this season. Including New Orleans (24th), Tampa Bay (32nd), Atlanta (29th), Baltimore (20th), Cleveland (13th, without CBs Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams), and Cincinnati (15th). Facing his toughest matchup all year against the 49ers, who rank 6th against opposing fantasy wide receivers this season. The 49ers have allowed the fewest passing yards this season and tied for the 3rd fewest passing touchdowns. They also rank 4th in most interceptions this season. Most likely matching up with cornerback Richard Sherman and easily one of the most elite and complete defensive units in the league, Lockett will be up against it this week.

WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (PIT) vs. LAR:

A disappointing season for who many analysts projected to be a top 5 receiver this season. JuJu has been struggling with backup quarterback Mason Rudolph. Most likely drawing coverage from star shutdown cornerback Jalen Ramsey who joined the Rams near the trade deadline this season. The Rams rank 10th against opposing fantasy wide receivers this season. Not only is the matchup one of the toughest in the league, JuJu just isn’t seeing the targets he should as the number one option; failing to reach double digit targets so far this season. His best game came in week 8 against the Miami Dolphins, a strangely competitive game where the Steelers were down 0-14 early in the game and had to fight back against a putrid defense. In that game he saw a season high 9 targets. Seeing some of his worst performances within the past 5 weeks against Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Chargers, and Indianapolis Colts where he scored less than 4 fantasy points in each game. The lack of target share, bad quarterback play, tough matchup, and recent struggles point to another bust game this week against the Rams.

WR Kenny Golladay (DET) vs. CHI:

Golladay has come on strong this year, ranking as the 10th best fantasy wide receiver this year in 0.5 PPR formats. He faces one of the toughest secondary matchups this week against the Chicago Bears. Ranking 2nd against opposing fantasy wide receivers. Golladay will most likely be seeing coverage from veteran cornerback Prince Amukamara who has been performing well this season. The Bears defense ranks 2nd against opposing fantasy receivers this season. Allowing the 9th fewest passing yards, 7th fewest passing touchdowns, 4th fewest yards per completion, 6th fewest offensive yards, and 5th fewest points allowed this season. The Bears have been one of the best secondaries this season. This Bear’s defense has been the strength of this team, keeping them within 7 points in 6 out of 8 games this season. Golladay and the Lions offense will have a tough matchup heading into week 10.
