San Francisco 49ers Team Stats 2019 49ers Snaps

5-0, 1st NFC West

at SEA

9:25 pm GMT, 12/29

The 49ers had a rough season with injuries, and it showed in their production. They averaged 21.4 points per game, and were middle of the road in most stats per game. The defense also struggled, and they were -25 in turnovers. Now with everyone looking healthy, we can look into 2019 and see if they have a better year. They have a tough division in terms of opposing defenses, but an offensive minded head coach with plenty of weapons is ready to battle. San Francisco will need to improve on both sides of the ball, and over the offseason they have addressed some big needs. It will also be interesting to see if the rookie names can make an impact in year one.

High Expectations Continue for Jimmy G

Does A Healthy Jimmy Garoppolo Elevate The Passing Game?

A shortened season hurt the passing game, but Jimmy Garoppolo wasn't lighting the world on fire either. He completed less than 60% of his passes, and had a rating on par with Nick Mullens who finished most of the season. San Francisco added some rookie wideouts, and they have a Pro Bowl tight end in George Kittle. With a healthy run game there is a chance this offense can become balanced and more efficient in 2019. Garoppolo is still somewhat of an unknown over a complete season, and 2019 should be the first year we get to see it. Adding in some good wideouts and some pass-catching backs, Garoppolo has a good crowd around him to succeed.

Can The 49ers Rank Top Ten In Rushing?

San Francisco will welcome back Jerick McKinnon who went down with a major injury last season and they also signed Tevin Coleman. Head coach, Kyle Shanahan, has also produced strong rushing seasons during his time in Atlanta. He reunited with his former back, as Coleman will be added to the mix. While it could be a nightmare for fantasy, the 49ers averaged 118.9 rushing yards in 2018. This was a good number for a team that struggled defensively too. Despite the injuries on offense, the 49ers were respectable. If the health is there, the 49ers should be able to build on their 2018 numbers. Coleman is a big addition, and both him and McKinnon are expected to lead the way. Matt Breida might work himself into the mix too.

Will The Defense Take A Step Forward?

The 49ers struggled to get pressure on the quarterback, but Nick Bosa will certainly help. San Francisco made some strong moves in the draft and in free agency. This should get the ball rolling for the defense to step up, especially after a decade of being one of the best defenses in the game. Overall the defense allowed 4.1 yards per carry and 7.3 yards per pass attempt. Scoring over 50 touchdowns against the 49ers defense is not a number they want to repeat. The division continues to get better offensively, and of course facing the lethal Rams offense twice a year is tough. The defense might be more of a work in progress, but they are looking more improved on paper.
