On The NBA Beat Podcast
On the NBA Beat is an interview-centric podcast providing nuanced perspectives on the league’s most important stories. Hosted by twin brothers Aaron and Joshua Fischman and Loren Lee Chen, each episode is typically focused on a particular team, with the hosts, all USC alums, picking the brains of an NBA beat writer. Other times, for broader league discussions or issues that go beyond basketball, OTNB brings on a national reporter, TV personality or some other type of insightful guest. Looking for an intelligent yet entertaining NBA discussion? On the NBA Beat is where you’ll want to be.
Each and every guest booked for the show is supremely knowledgeable about the team or topic he or she covers or otherwise closely follows. The co-creator of Will & Grace, David Kohan, has come on a couple times to discuss his beloved Clippers with whom he’s had season tickets for 30 years. In his most recent appearance, Kohan stopped by shortly after the Clippers shocked the NBA world by signing Kawhi Leonard and acquiring Paul George. Jovan Buha, Jake Fischer, Howard Beck, Kelly Dwyer, Lang Whitaker and Sekou Smith have all appeared over the last few years as well.
OTNB is about much more than strictly the basketball on the court. To cite two, among other examples, Coral Lu of ESPN China educated the hosts and listeners on basketball’s vast expansion in China and Dave Zirin (The Nation, the Edge of the Sports podcast) thoroughly opined on the intersection of politics, activism and the NBA. OTNB has even done episodes on the NBA 2K League and homophobia in the NBA.
Based in LA, Aaron most closely follows the Clippers, which would explain, in part, the spate of recent Clippers episodes, but OTNB is working on providing content on other fascinating teams very soon, looking forward to tapping into its deep reporter contacts around the league.
