On this episode of the Spurscast, I am joined by Pounding the Rock’s Bruno Passos to discuss the San Antonio Spurs’ preseason opener against the Orlando Magic.
The Spurs were definitely in preseason form as the Spurs lost via blowout to the Magic. San Antonio sat several veterans as Spurs coach Gregg Popovich let the younger players take over.
Aside from seeing several younger players, it was Dejounte Murray’s return after being injured for the year last preseason. As we discuss, Murray just played in the first half and finished with 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals in just over 14 minutes. Aside from seeing him on the floor, Bruno noticed a much smoother jumper from Murray.
We also discussed Lonnie Walker IV getting the start as DeMar DeRozan was a late scratch for the game. Walker displayed a new dynamic in his game by picking up five assists.
One of the highlights of the game was Bryn Forbes, and especially his touch from outside, knocking down five-of-six three-pointers. Forbes should make the minutes battles for playing time at the shooting guard position very competitive.
To close out this episode, we discussed some news we covered on Project Spurs last week with DeRozan and the Spurs reportedly discussing a contract extension.
