It's been a long time since the Warriors won the inaugural Basketball Association of America (BAA) championship back in 1947. Still playing in Philadelphia, the franchise actually made it to the first pair of BAA Finals. The Warriors franchise won their second championship and first in the NBA, beating the Detroit Pistons in five games to end the 1955-56 season. After 16 seasons in the City of Brotherly Love, the Warriors headed west to "The City”. In their second season in San Francisco, the Warriors were dominated in their first trip to the NBA Finals by the Boston Celtics. A lot of teams were dominated by this Boston dynasty. The Warriors would win the Western Conference again three years later but lose in the finals to the new team in Philadelphia the 76ers. San Francisco would win their third title and second NBA Championship, sweeping the Baltimore Bullets in the 1975 NBA Finals. The Warriors would not appear in the finals for another 40 seasons.

However, the 2014-15 season would begin a five-year run of trips to the final round. During this run of success, Golden State would add three more NBA banners to the rafters. Throughout this run of NBA dominance, the Warriors posted some of the most prolific scoring statistics in league history. The Warriors led the NBA in scoring offense four straight seasons and finished second in the final year of their run. It's not ironic when one of the best sharpshooters in NBA history goes down; your team's scoring ability will suffer. Without Stephen Curry, Golden State plummeted to the third-worst scoring team in the league in 2019-20. As the 2020-21 season started, the Warriors were still minus the other half of the famed Splash Brothers, Klay Thompson.

As much as the statistical drop in point production has hurt Golden State, they have not compensated by improving on defense. The Warriors are currently ranking in the bottom 10 for points allowed for a second consecutive year. With two key players, Thompson and Marquese Chriss absent for the entire season, Golden State is in an obvious rebuild situation. However, with a healthy Curry and new faces such as Andrew Wiggins, Golden State won't be the conference doormat they were in the pandemic shortened 2019-20. With one of the greatest shooters in NBA history anchoring your offense, surrounded by a capable supporting cast, Golden State has a puncher's chance at getting back into the playoffs in 2021. They still maybe a year from challenging for another NBA crown, but don't be surprised if this rebuilding effort produces a lightning-fast turnaround.
