Welcome back to a jam packed, extended edition this week of the Drive & Dish NBA podcast, hosted by Kevin Rafuse (@rafusetolose) & Justin Cousart (@JustinContheAir). Before hoops, the guys discuss a banana that was duct taped to a wall, going for $120,000 at Art Basel in Miami. We’re not kidding. Then it’s right into the madness that is the New York Knicks, and the news that David Fizdale has been fired as head coach. Justin explains why he thinks this doesn’t really help the team at all, even if Fizdale wasn’t the best coach. Kevin then expresses his frustration with the franchise in general, and why it’ll take way more than a new coach or superstar to fix all the issues with the franchise. The guys also debate if New York alone can still attract marquee talent.
After that, the duo gets into part 2 of our quarter season review, this time focusing on the Western Conference. First up it’s playoff teams. Do the Lakers have the best duo in the league? Are the Mavericks true Western Conference contenders? Kevin argues why Denver needs more out of Nikola Jokic, while Justin highlights the Clippers depth. The guys then look at a good start for Houston, a disappointing start for the Jazz & Mike Conley. Justin then explains why he doesn’t believe in Minnesota, while Kevin says this season is already a success for Phoenix compared to the past few years.
Kevin & Justin then take a quick break for Who’s Ballin Who’s Fallin, including Houston’s infamous protest over James Harden’s missed dunks, Andre Drummond being a 20-20 machine and the Cavs slumping a bit. The guys then jump back into non-playoff teams. Can OKC sneak into the playoffs? Is it the end of the playoff run for San Antonio? Plus Kevin says why the Warriors can bounce back sooner than later, and we take a look at the younger squads (Grizzlies, Pelicans & Kings.)
Last but not least, we have some fun the end the show with Hot Takes from Reddit, including some Mugsey Bogus appreciation. Subscribe and leave a review on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, Spotify, Spreaker & PlayerFM. You also can watch the podcast on YouTube.
