Game 5 between the Atlanta Hawks (2-2) and New York Knicks (2-2) is scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern on NBC. 84% of teams in NBA history that held a 3-2 series lead went on to advance, so it’s a crucial contest for both sides.

Hawks vs. Knicks Betting Analysis

Game 4 was a forgettable performance from the Hawks. They shot 24.4% from beyond the arc, committed 18 turnovers, and could not respond after getting punched early.

New York deserves credit for making more of an effort to double CJ McCollum and get the basketball out of his hands. He only scored 17 points on 15 shots and saw his touches and average dribbles per touch both shrink compared to the first three games of the series, per NBA.com. McCollum is Atlanta’s best off-the-dribble scorer, so the Hawks must find ways to punish the Knicks for trapping or blitzing him in Game 5.

Karl-Anthony Towns is having himself a series. He’s averaging 21 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 5 assists per game on 72.4% true shooting. Towns is an offensive mismatch because Atlanta does not have enough interior size to make him settle for jump shots, and his spacing opens up the court for Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby to attack.

The Knicks have outscored the Hawks by 19.8 points per 100 possessions with Towns on the court so far this series. On the flip side, Atlanta has bested New York by 14.3 points per 100 possessions during the non-Towns minutes. That’s an on-off swing of 34 points per 100 possessions!

Mikal Bridges is on the other end of the spectrum, as his on-off swing is -38 points per 100 possessions excluding garbage time. He’s averaging 7.3 points per game and has seen his playing time slashed over the last two games. Head coach Mike Brown could replace him in the starting lineup with Miles McBride, but that would not help Bridges’ confidence in the slightest.

As for the best bet, it’s taking Dyson Daniels to record at least 13 rebounds plus assists.

He’s a key rebounder for the Hawks because their bigs are often either pulled away from the hoop because of Towns or wrestling with Mitchell Robinson under the basket. Daniels is also a pass-first player who generates good looks in transition. He punishes sagging defenders by orchestrating dribble handoffs, which often gives curling shooters great looks since Daniels’ defender is too far away to properly contest. Daniels can also attack space and find spot-up shooters.

Overall, he has logged 6, 15, 19, and 20 rebounds plus assists through four games.
