The Favorite

lsuThe LSU Tigers have managed to make their way through the tough SEC and the semi-finals undefeated with a 14-0 record. Quarterback Joe Burrow had an excellent season that saw him win this year’s Heisman Award. The Tigers finished the season with the nation’s top scoring and passing offense. Running Back Clyde Edwards-Helaire had an underrated season on the ground for the Tigers as he was 17th in the country with 1,304 yards.

While the LSU defense wasn’t as dominant this season at it has been in the past, they were still in the Top 30 in the country in points allowed per game. When you have an offense as elite as LSU does, anything above and average defense is plenty good enough to win games. The Tigers managed to get through one of the toughest schedules in the country unscathed. LSU got past six Top 10 teams this season in Texas, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma.

The Underdog

clemson tigersThe reigning champs with a quarterback who is 25-0 in his career is entering the CFP Championship Game as an underdog. Clemson once again had an undefeated season and will be trying to go back-to-back with a win over LSU. Trevor Lawrence started his season out slow but has turned it up in the second-half of the season. Lawrence hasn’t thrown an interception in eight games and had a streak of eight games in a row with three or more touchdown passes before throwing for just two against Ohio State in the semis. Running Back Travis Etienne was one of the best in the country this season as he was seventh in rushing yards with 1,536 yards. He led the nation in yards per carry with 8.0.

The Clemson defense was once again elite as they led the nation in points allowed per game. The Tigers allowed just 11.5 points per game this season. They also had the top pass defense this season as they allowed just 151.5 yards per game through the air. Their weak schedule is a big reason that Clemson is an underdog against LSU. However, Clemson showed they can take on the toughest teams in the country with their win over Ohio State in the semis.
