2026-27 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Winner Odds

2026-27 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Best Bet

Current Best Bet: Chet Holmgren (Thunder)

Switching the DPOY best bet to Chet Holmgren makes sense — he’s +1100 and the closest real challenger to Wembanyama’s -350 chalk, with a case built on last season’s first-team All-Defense selection, 1.9 blocks and 8.9 rebounds per game, and a Thunder defense that was 6.5 points per 100 possessions better with him on the floor. He’s already flashing that impact early this year too, posting a 17-rebound, 4-block game on October 23. With OKC positioned as a top title contender again, Holmgren offers a much better combination of price and plausibility than Thompson did.

2026-27 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Contenders

Victor Wembanyama (Spurs)

  • Season Stats: 11 rpg; 4 bpg; 0.7 spg

Chet Holmgren (Thunder)

  • Season Stats: 9.3 rpg; 3 bpg; 0.7 spg

Ausar Thompson (Pistons)

  • Season Stats: 7 rpg; 0.5 bpg; 1 spg

2026-27 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Sleepers

Scottie Barnes and Evan Mobley round out the sleeper tier. Barnes (+5000) is the dart-throw pick — he posted a career-high 2.3 defensive box plus/minus last season with 1.4 steals and 1.5 blocks per game, finished fifth in last year’s DPOY voting, and brings the rare ability to guard all five positions on a Raptors defense that should be even stronger after adding Kawhi Leonard. Mobley (+4000) is the quieter value play: he’s already a past DPOY winner, and with Wembanyama needing 65 games to qualify after last season’s blood-clot scare limited him, any hiccup in Wemby’s availability again opens a clear lane for Mobley to reclaim the award.

Scottie Barnes (Raptors)

  • Season Stats: 7.7 rpg; 1 bpg; 4 spg

Evan Mobley (Cavaliers)

  • Season Stats: 9 rpg; 1.5 bpg; 1 spg
