Week 13 Waiver Wire Top Pickups & Adds: Ryan Fitzpatrick To Rescue Your QB Position

Week 12 has been the peal of chaos for this fantasy football season. Denver was without three quarterbacks and I still have no idea if the Ravens-Steelers game will play this week. The next few weeks are going to be rocky and with the playoff push and playoff weeks now here, we have to be ready for just about anything. Some of these names might not jump out to you as a clear need, but securing depth with players in good matchups or getting a higher volume now late in the year are better options to throw in if needed at the last moment. This beats heading out to free agency and trying to battle the rest for a viable play. Tune into our Week 13 fantasy football rankings & projections to help guide you throughout the week with any decisions.

Quarterbacks

Ryan Fitzpatrick – Miami Dolphins

Average % Rostered: 13%, FAAB: 5%

Daniel Jones was my add last week but he went down with an injury against the Bengals. Ryan Fitzpatrick is now looking to start the next few weeks with Tua dealing with a thumb injury. He wasn’t asked to do much this week against the Jets, but still tossed 2 touchdowns and over 200 yards. Fitz has some tough matchups coming up but he has had some strong games this season regardless. With so many quarterbacks struggling or now injured, we also have to think about the potential situations that happened with the Ravens and Broncos this week. Fitzpatrick is a better last-ditch effort if needed.

Running Backs

Wayne Gallman – New York Giants

Average % Rostered: 57%, FAAB: 10%

Wayne Gallman just continues to deliver and the rostered % finally went up, but he is still out there in over 30% of leagues. Gallman should be at the very least added depth to a fantasy team, especially with all the covid issues and injuries flying around the last few weeks. Gallman has put up double-digit fantasy points in five straight games and still has a solid schedule over the next few weeks. He will continue to be a weekly RB2 option with RB1 upside.

James White – New England Patriots

Average % Rostered: 48%, FAAB: 5%

While the two touchdowns bailed out James White this week against the Cardinals, he has back to back 14-point fantasy games. Rex Burkhead being out clears a body in the backfield and White should jump right in. His usage has been odd this season and still was this week against the Cardinals, but I’d still pick him up for a bench role at the very least. New England’s offense is still fairly stagnant and there is a lack of receiving options, so theoretically White should get some solid looks.

Cam Akers – Los Angeles Rams

Average % Rostered: 28%, FAAB: 5%

Running back continues to be a thin position for waiver wire adds, but Cam Akers is a guy who has looked great the last few weeks and has earned some stretches in the Rams offense where they’ve gone to him over the other two. The Rams will be facing the 14th, 28th, and 21st ranked run defenses over the next three weeks. Not a bad spot for Akers to build on this momentum as he has clearly narrowed the gap between him and Henderson for touches.

Wide Receivers

Corey Davis – Tennessee Titans

Average % Rostered: 51%, FAAB: 10%

It was a big day for Derrick Henry, to the point the rest of the offense didn’t have to do much. Corey Davis still had 70 yards on three catches, and another double-digit fantasy point game, making it every game but one. Tennessee has a tremendous matchup down the stretch, with Cleveland, Jacksonville, Detroit, Green Bay, and Houston. It doesn’t get much better for playoff matchups there.

Allen Lazard – Green Bay Packers

Average % Rostered: 28%, FAAB: 7%

Allen Lazard has ten targets since returning and looked a lot better against Chicago. That is tough to do for wide receivers, but Lazard playing with Aaron Rodgers is going to give him that bump. Green Bay will face some soft secondaries the rest of the way and that bodes well for Lazard to be a WR3 option in your lineups.

Breshad Perriman – New York Jets

Average % Rostered: 14%, FAAB: 5%

Breshad Perriman has had an up and down season and has been injured for a good portion of it. When healthy he has generally been a reliable target for whoever is at quarterback. Over the next few weeks, the Jets will have some easy secondaries to face, getting the Raiders, Seahawks, and Browns. Perriman is coming off an eight target day and has put up four double-digit fantasy points in four of the last five healthy games. Perriman is a decent WR3 right now and we know the Jets will consistently be trailing.

Gabriel Davis – Buffalo Bills

Average % Rostered: 1%, FAAB: 3%

With John Brown on IR, Gabriel Davis is going to step into the mix here. He has had a couple of big games this season producing on minimal targets, but now he will see regular snaps and targets. He played a similar role to how he has done all year where he stretches the field. He finished with a 3-79-1 line against the Chargers this Sunday. While he has some tougher secondaries coming up, Davis is still a solid deep-league add. The Bills offense has been putting up strong numbers through the air and Davis will have his shots each week to produce at a WR2 level.

Tight Ends

Robert Tonyan – Green Bay Packers

Average % Rostered: 41%, FAAB: 6%

It was a big day for the Packers offense against Chicago, and like many tight ends have had, Robert Tonyan put together a strong night with 17.7 fantasy points. While the Packers got a healthy body bag in Allen Lazard, he still saw five targets, catching all five for a 5-67-1 line. Green Bay gets mediocre defenses the rest of the way as they face Philadelphia, Detroit, Carolina, and Tennessee over the next four weeks. As the Packers close in on the division, I expect them to do it in style as they should put up plenty of points over the next few weeks.
