Group B has wrapped up at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Switzerland winning the group and Canada joining them in the Round of 32. Bosnia and Herzegovina remain in contention to advance as one of the tournament’s best third-place teams, while Qatar has been eliminated. Switzerland entered the tournament as the pre-tournament favorite to top the group.

2026 World Cup Group B Preview: Preview, Favorites & Qualification Scenarios

Switzerland is the odds-on favorite to win Group B. They qualified for the tournament easily, finishing unbeaten as they topped UEFA Qualifying Group B. As co-hosts, we expect Canada to do well in front of a home crowd, but second place is probably the best they can hope for.

Bosnia and Herzegovina will also fancy their chances of progressing to the Round of 32, qualifying after beating Italy in a penalty shootout in their UEFA Playoff Final. Qatar is the group outsider, but if they can beat either Canada or Bosnia & Herzegovina, they might stand a chance of progressing. That is a huge task, though.

Qatar faces Bosnia and Herzegovina in the final Group game – it could come down to whoever wins this will finish in third place and therefore have a chance of progressing.

World Cup Group B Team Profiles

Take a look at our team profiles for Group B below, where we’ve detailed current form, key players, and World Cup records.

Canada

As co-hosts of this edition of the FIFA World Cup, Canada will fancy their chances of reaching the Knockout Stages. The 2026 competition is only the third time Canada has played in the World Cup, and they’ll be hoping to improve on their 2022 record of three Group games and three losses.

Four points might be enough to qualify as Group runners-up. It’s certainly viable that Canada could beat Bosnia and Herzegovina or Qatar, and a point against the other could well be enough for Second place.

  • Key Players: Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina qualified for this year’s World Cup in dramatic style. After finishing second in UEFA qualifying Group H, they headed into the playoffs, where a successful penalty shootout against Italy saw Sergej Barbarez’s side seal their place.

This Bosnian side possesses a wealth of experience. Edin Dzeko, their record appearance maker and goalscorer, will be vital if Bosnia and Herzegovina are going to progress into the Knockout Stages.

This is only the second time Bosnia and Herzegovina have qualified for the World Cup, and the first since 2014, when they failed to qualify from their Group.

  • Key Players: Edin Dzeko, Ermedin Demirovic

Qatar

This is only the second time Qatar has appeared in a World Cup tournament, and the first time they’ve had to qualify for the event after hosting the event in 2022. They failed to win a Group game last time around, and in all honesty, it’s tough to see them managing to do so in 2026.

  • Key Players: Akram Afif, Almoez Ali

Switzerland

Switzerland comfortably qualified for this year’s World Cup, finishing their UEFA Group B qualifying campaign with 14 points, scoring 14 goals and conceding just 2 in their 6 qualifying games.

They’ve qualified for their 6th consecutive World Cup, and their 13th overall, but Switzerland haven’t reached the quarterfinal stage since 1954. They have, though, reached the Knockout Stages in the last three World Cup editions, and we expect Murat Yakin’s men to do the same this time around.

  • Key Players: Granit Xhaka, Manuel Akanji

Group B Winner Prediction: Switzerland

Odds aren’t particularly favorable, but it’s really difficult to look past Switzerland winning Group B and easily at that. Canada, as co-hosts, will have the home fans on their side, but we still expect Switzerland to win all of their group games and head into the Knockout Stages comfortably.

Group B Prop Bet: Canada Second Place Finish (+160 at DraftKings)

It’s a close call between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina in who will finish in second place, but for us, the co-hosts should do enough to progress as runners-up. Playing all three Group Stage games on home soil, we expect Canada to beat Qatar and do just enough to beat Bosnia, too.
