2026 World Cup Group F Preview: Preview, Favorites & Qualification Scenarios
The two standout sides in Group F were the Netherlands and Japan, and that prediction proved accurate as both teams advanced to the Round of 32. The Netherlands ultimately won the group, while Japan finished second after pushing them closely throughout the group stage.
Tunisia entered with confidence after a strong qualification campaign, but they were unable to mount a serious challenge. Sweden also struggled to make an impact, leaving the Netherlands and Japan to take the two automatic qualification spots as expected.

Group F Team Profiles
Take a look at our Team Profiles for Group F below, where we assess the chances each side has of progressing to the Knockout Stage.
Netherlands
The Netherlands qualified for the World Cup 2026 with ease. Finishing top of UEFA Group G, the Netherlands ended their qualification campaign without losing, scoring 27 goals and conceding just four in their eight games.
After failing to qualify in 2018, the Netherlands reached the quarterfinals in the 2022 edition. They’re yet to lift the World Cup, though they have finished in second on three occasions, the most recent coming in 2010.
The Netherlands squad is full of talent and experience. We expect them to qualify from Group F, although they’ll face a battle with Japan for top spot.
- Key Players: Virgil van Dijk, Tijjani Reijnders
Japan
Japan made light work of their AFC Qualifying campaign. They lost just once throughout the process, qualifying with three games to spare.
This is their seventh successive World Cup appearance. Of their previous six, they’ve reached the Knockout Stages on three occasions, including the last two World Cup tournaments. We expect Japan to do the same in 2026, too. An exciting team to watch, Japan is the favorite to win Group F.
- Key Players: Wataru Endo, Kaoru Mitoma
Sweden
Sweden can count itself fortunate to have qualified for this World Cup edition. They failed to win any of the UEFA Group B matches, only qualifying for the play-offs thanks to the Nations League ranking.
A very late winning goal against Poland was enough to see Sweden through. They’ll find it tough against Japan and the Netherlands, with progress to the Knockout Stages unlikely. Sweden failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, though it did reach the quarterfinal stage in 2018.
- Key Players: Lucas Bergvall, Viktor Gyokeres
Tunisia
Tunisia is another side that qualified for the 2026 World Cup incredibly easily. They won nine of their 10 CAF Group H qualifying matches, scoring 22 goals in the process. Tunisia also didn’t concede a single goal throughout qualifying.
This is the seventh time Tunisia has appeared at the World Cup. They’ve never progressed out of the Groups, but this time they stand a reasonable chance of reaching the Knockout Stages for the first time.
- Key Players: Hazem Mastouri, Hannibal
Group F Winner Prediction: Netherlands
It’s a tough group to call, but we think the Netherlands will pip Japan to top spot. Japan is a favorite with the majority of sportsbooks, but we think this Netherlands squad will have enough to finish top of Group F.
Group F Prop Bet: Sweden to Finish Bottom (+275 at DraftKings)
While many are expecting Tunisia to struggle, we think it’s Sweden that will have the toughest time. There is talent in their squad, but Graham Potter’s men will struggle to make an impact on this edition of the World Cup.
