World Cup Group G Betting Guide: Odds, Schedule & Preview

Group G is heading into its final round at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Egypt leading the standings on four points. Iran and Belgium remain close behind, while New Zealand is still alive in the race for the Round of 32. Belgium entered the tournament as the group favorite, but the race to advance remains wide open.

2026 World Cup Group G Preview: Preview, Favorites & Qualification Scenarios

The key match in Group G is the first game in the group between Belgium and Egypt. Belgium are the favorites to finish top of the Group, though Egypt have a couple of star players in Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush who can be particularly dangerous.

It’s difficult to see where either Iran or New Zealand will pick up points. We’re expecting Belgium and Egypt to qualify without any problems, with a battle between Iran and New Zealand to finish third.

Group G Team Profiles

Read our Group G Team Profile below, where we’ve assessed the qualification chances of each side, as well as the key players to watch out for.

Belgium

Belgium eased through their UEFA Group J qualifying campaign. Admittedly, it wasn’t the toughest group to get through, featuring Wales, North Macedonia, Kazakhstan, and Liechtenstein. But still, the Belgians ended qualification without losing a game, scoring 29 goals in the process.

They’ll be looking to improve on their outing in the 2022 edition, where Belgium failed to reach the Knockout Stage. In the previous two tournaments, Belgium has reached the quarterfinals and semifinals. That might be a tough ask this time around, but we do expect Belgium to qualify from the Group easily.

There’s a mix of youth and experience in this Belgian squad. We can expect winger Jeremy Doku in particular to enjoy an excellent World Cup campaign.

  • Key Players: Jeremy Doku, Kevin de Bruyne

Egypt

Another side that eased their way into the 2026 World Cup was Egypt. They topped the CAF Group A standings without losing a fixture, conceding just two goals in their ten qualifying games.

This is the fourth time Egypt will feature at a World Cup tournament. The last time they qualified was in 2018, where they failed to reach the Knockout Stages. In fact, Egypt has never won a World Cup match, but that’s likely to change this time around.

  • Key Players: Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush

Iran

Iran qualified for the World Cup after topping the AFC Third Round Group A standings. This is the fourth consecutive World Cup tournament Iran has appeared in, and their seventh overall, but they’re yet to reach the Knockout Stages.

With Belgium and Egypt in Group G, we think it will be difficult for Iran to reach the Knockouts this time, either.

  • Key Players: Mehdi Taremi, Mehdi Ghayedi

New Zealand

To continue the trend of smashing their way to World Cup qualification, New Zealand easily got through their OFC qualification campaign. They’ll be facing much tougher opponents in the World Cup, though, as they make their first appearance in the tournament since 2010.

Like Egypt, New Zealand has never won a World Cup Finals match before. It’s difficult to see what they will do in this edition, either. They’ll be looking at the Iran fixture as a potential victory, though we’re expecting a close game when those two sides meet.

  • Key Players: Chris Wood, Marko Stamenic

Group G Winner Prediction: Belgium ()

There isn’t much value in Belgium’s Group Winner World Cup odds, but it’s hard to see past Rudi Garcia’s men finishing in top spot. Egypt will challenge, but Belgium’s overall strength in depth should be enough to see them finish in first place.

Group G Prop Bet: New Zealand To Lose All Group Games (DraftKings +225)

While the Iran vs New Zealand game will be close, we expect Iran to come out on top. We can’t see where New Zealand will gain any points, let alone a win. Our choice of Group G prop bet is New Zealand to lose all of their fixtures.

Who is the favorite to win Group G?

Belgium is the clear favorite to win Group G (). While Egypt will provide a challenge, we agree with the sportsbooks and expect Belgium to comfortably top the group.

Which Group G squad is the strongest?

While Egypt’s squad has some iconic English Premier League stars within it, no Group G squad comes close to the quality of Belgium. A fantastic mix of youth and experience, Belgium will prove hard to beat in the group stage.
