2026 World Cup Group H Preview: Preview, Favorites & Qualification Scenarios
Spain is far and away the favorite to win Group H. Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia should be dispatched with ease; it’s a matter of how many the European giants will score against them. The only factor that might stop Spain from finishing top is their game against Uruguay. If Spain only draws, the top spot will almost certainly come down to how many goals those sides score in their games against Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia.
Still, we expect Spain to beat Uruguay. It’s the final Group H game, so potentially a ‘winner-takes-all’ fixture on who will top the group.

Group H Team Profiles
Take a look at our Team Profiles for Group H below, where we assess each side’s chances of progressing, as well as the key players to look out for.
Spain
Spain topped the UEFA Group E qualification standings to book their place at this year’s World Cup. Winning five and drawing one of their six games, Spain scored 21 goals and conceded just two on their way to wrapping up qualification.
They head into this edition as favorites to win it, but Spain’s recent World Cup performances have been poor. They only reached the Round of 16 in the last two editions and failed to qualify for the Knockout Stages in 2014. A poor showing from a side that lifted the World Cup trophy in 2010.
However, the European Champions head into this one with a squad full of immense talent. While we think that winning the World Cup will be a more difficult task than the sportsbooks are seemingly predicting, they’ll easily qualify from Group H and in top spot, too.
- Key Players: Lamine Yamal, Rodri
Cape Verde
Making their first-ever appearance at a World Cup tournament, we’re looking forward to seeing how Cape Verde fare. Qualifying after topping the CAF Group D standings, Cape Verde will be looking to cause a shock. The Saudi Arabia game is one where Cape Verde will think they might take points from, but unfortunately, we can’t see them picking up points at all.
- Key Players: Ryan Mendes, Roberto Lopes
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia secured qualification to the World Cup after topping their AFC Fourth Round group. This will be the seventh World Cup tournament Saudi Arabia has appeared in, but they’ve only qualified for the Knockout Stages once before, in 1994.
We can’t see them getting through the Group Stage this time, either. The strength of Spain and Uruguay should see those sides comfortably through, leaving Saudi Arabia with a fight for third place.
However, Saudi Arabia caused one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history in 2022 when they beat eventual winners Argentina in the Group Stage. While we can’t really see history repeating itself, this Saudi side needs to be taken seriously.
- Key Players: Salem Al-Dawsari, Musab Al-Juwayr
Uruguay
Uruguay is the second favorite to win Group H. We think Spain will finish top, but if Uruguay can get a draw against them in the final group game, it could come down to which of the two scores the most goals against Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia as to who finishes in first place.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men were inconsistent during qualifying, going 7-4-7 in CONMEBOL qualifying matches, but it was enough to see them through to World Cup 2026.
Uruguay’s squad has some special talents in it, Federico Valverde being the standout name. We expect the winners of the first-ever World Cup to progress into the Knockout Stages with ease.
- Key Players: Federico Valverde, Ronald Araujo
Group H Winner Prediction: Spain ()
There’s very little value in betting on Spain to win Group H, but Luis de la Fuente’s men should top the group with ease. They’ll comfortably beat Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia, and should beat Uruguay too. The only aspect that could affect Spain finishing top of the Group is if they only draw with Uruguay. Then, whoever scores the most goals against Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde will top the group, but again, Spain should dispatch the South Americans with relative ease.
Group H Prop Bet: Cape Verde to Lose All Group Games (DraftKings +200)
It’s a really difficult Group to find betting value in, but we think the odds of +200 for Cape Verde to lose all of their Group H games aren’t too bad considering. They’ll be looking at the Saudi Arabia game to potentially get something from, but it’s a huge ask.
