2026 World Cup Group K Preview: Preview, Favorites & Qualification Scenarios
Portugal is the odds-on favorite to win Group K. It’s difficult to argue with the sportsbooks here, though Colombia will present a tough challenge. The final game sees Colombia take on Portugal; that game could decide who finishes top and who finishes as the runner-up.
Similarly, the final Group K fixtures also see DR Congo play Uzbekistan. While neither side is expected to qualify from the group, both teams will be looking at this game as a potential fixture to realistically take points from.

Portugal
Portugal eased their way through their World Cup qualification, finishing top of the group standings. This is their seventh consecutive World Cup tournament, their ninth overall, and Portugal will be hoping they can match or better their quarterfinal appearance in 2022.
Portugal has a squad oozing with talent. It’s a big ask for the current Nations League holders to go all the way in 2026, but we expect this Portugal side to reach the latter stages of the competition at least, starting with topping Group K.

DR Congo
After finishing second in CAF Group B, DR Congo went on to beat Jamaica in their inter-confederation playoff to book their spot at World Cup 2026. It’s the first time since 1974 that the country has appeared at a World Cup tournament.
It’s going to be a tough ask for DR Congo to qualify from the Group, but there are some big names in their squad. The key fixture will be their game against Uzbekistan – whoever can win that game might stand a chance of progressing into the Knockout Stages.

Uzbekistan
One of the four countries making their World Cup debut in 2026, Uzbekistan qualified for the tournament after finishing second in AFC Third Round Group B. A huge achievement, they’ve based their success on their fantastically solid defence, which will need to be at its very best if they’re to stand any chance of progressing to the Knockout Stages.

Colombia
After missing out in 2022, Colombia secured qualification to this World Cup after finishing third in the CONMEBOL qualification standings. A squad mixing experience with up-and-coming talent, Colombia could surprise a few and reach the latter stages of the tournament, just as they did in 2014, reaching the quarterfinals.

Group K Winner Prediction: Portugal
Although we expect Colombia to progress easily, it’s difficult to look past Portugal to be the winner of Group K. Their strength-in-depth is undeniable; there’s quality all over the park, and Roberto Martinez’s side should top the group with ease.
