2026 ACC College Football Betting Preview, Odds & Best Bets
The Atlantic Coast Conference is going through what it calls a “transition year” with 17 teams in the league, although the ACC has undergone plenty of transitions over the past four seasons with new teams added and new formats introduced.
This year, 12 teams will play a nine-game conference schedule and national title contender Notre Dame will make a guest appearance against five different ACC teams, including Clemson.
While Duke managed to sneak into the ACC title game last year and beat Virginia to become a surprise conference winner, Miami (FL) was clearly the top team in the conference all year. The Hurricanes earned an at-large bid to the College Football Playoff and made a somewhat surprising run to the National Championship before falling, 27-21, to Indiana.
Miami picked up stud quarterback Darian Mensah and top receiver Cooper Barkate via transfer after they led Duke to the ACC title, so it’s no surprise that the Hurricanes are favored to win the league this season.
It may surprise some casual fans to see Clemson with odds almost twice as long as SMU and Louisville in terms of ACC Futures. Clemson is coming off an injury-riddled season with its worst finish since 2010. Meanwhile, Louisville continues to reload under fourth-year coach Jeff Brohm and SMU brings a lot of continuity to the table, led by third-year QB Kevin Jennings.
The ACC Championship game is a Saturday noontime start on December 5 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Will two of the top four contenders make it to the championship? Or will another dark horse emerge? We go through the ACC betting odds below.
2026 ACC Winner Odds
A great team became even better on paper this offseason when Miami added Mensah and Barkate, but the Hurricanes are much weaker on the defensive front heading into this season. They have a history of inconsistency in big regular season matchups and have some tough road games at Clemson and Notre Dame, plus home games against Florida State and Virginia Tech that could trip them up.
While it seems likely Miami can navigate a mid-tier schedule and make the ACC Championship game this December, the odds might outweigh the possibility that the Hurricanes falter again, opening the door for Louisville or SMU to present value at 8/1 odds at some books.
Even if SMU drops a Sept. 19 showdown at Louisville, the Mustangs have a good shot to run their ACC schedule from there, with a Nov. 21 test at Notre Dame listed as a non-conference bout and therefore not slated to impact their ACC title status. SMU was a hair away from the ACC Championship last year and is a decent bet to get back with a huge transfer class surrounding an established quarterback and savvy coaching staff.
We could also consider Virginia Tech as a longshot under new coach James Franklin, who was fired by Penn State in the midst of a losing streak last season. Franklin brought nearly half of the recruits slated to join the Nittany Lions to Blacksburg and kept working through the transfer portal, creating a talented roster that could silence doubters with a quick turnaround.

Continuing the discussion above, Virginia Tech is a value play to go over 7.5 wins where available. The Hokies have a very navigable schedule other than three road tests at Clemson, SMU, and Miami, but they might surprise in one of those games and end up winning 9-10 games under Franklin.
Looking at the overall picture in the ACC, the Hurricanes are the only team projected for 10-plus wins, while Boston College and Stanford are two of the only Power Four programs projected for just 3.5 wins.
Expectations are also low for Wake Forest, Syracuse, and Bill Belichick’s UNC experiment. Duke is expected to take a step back with a 5.5-win projection. Virginia, Pittsburgh, NC State, California, and Clemson are all projected for around 7 or 8 wins, with plenty of head-to-head matchups scheduled between the ACC rivals.
Clemson has the toughest schedule in the ACC aside from the teams projected for 4.5 or fewer wins. Virginia has the easiest, and SMU is among the easiest, which is why we recommended the Mustangs as ACC title contenders. The same logic applies to SMU topping 8.5 wins.
Louisville is also looking like a great team to back with a projection of 7.5 wins at some books. The Cardinals could start 1-2 with losses to Ole Miss and SMU, and still cruise to 9 or 10 wins with an easy schedule the rest of the way.
While Pittsburgh has an exciting offense led by freshman QB Mason Heintschel, the Panthers have a back-loaded schedule that could be difficult to navigate for eight-plus wins. The Panthers have lost to top-half teams in Power Four conferences like clockwork under Pat Narduzzi and three of their final five games look like road losses to conference foes.
Best Bet: Louisville Over
2026 ACC Heisman Trophy Contenders, Odds

The odds indicate Mensah is the only true contender for the Heisman in the ACC, but he’s behind only Texas QB Arch Manning and Notre Dame QB CJ Carr in terms of odds at some books.
After passing for 3,973 yards with 34 touchdowns for Duke, Mensah joins a far more talented roster with his top target from Duke coming along. He went 1-6 against ranked opponents at Duke and Tulane and will need to come up clutch against top teams, with a win at Notre Dame on Nov. 7 looking like a massive resume-building piece. Given some of the questions surrounding Mensah’s transfer to Miami, it would take a truly incredible season for the junior to convince voters that he’s deserving of the highest honor in NCAA football.
Jennings and Kienholz fit into a similar bucket as solid quarterbacks looking to steer SMU and Louisville, respectively, to success this season. It would be stunning if either QB puts up the numbers or flashy plays required to generate real Heisman buzz.
Vizzina has incredibly long odds because Clemson isn’t expected to push for the ACC title and is listed as +750 longshot to make the College Football Playoff.

2026 ACC College Football Playoff Odds
Since the ACC Champion automatically qualifies, Miami has the third-shortest odds (-300) of any program to make the College Football Playoff this season. The Canes are capable of earning an at-large bid even if they once again get left out of the ACC title game.
Trailing behind Miami once again, we have SMU and Louisville at roughly +450 odds to make the dance. The strength of schedule won’t be overly impressive for either program with most of their games slated against ACC competition, so there is likely more value in taking either team to win the conference at nearly double the odds.
Clemson is a bit intriguing at 7/1 odds because Dabo Sweeney has lined up some high-profile non-conference bouts against LSU and South Carolina to bookend the season. If the Tigers can win one or both of those contests, they could be considered for an at-large bid.
