The 2026 Bank of Utah Championship is officially underway, with Black Desert Resort producing the birdie fest we anticipated we would see judging from its first two years on the PGA Tour schedule.

There is a logjam of names atop the leaderboard, but Zach Bauchou stands alone at 9-under-par. Six players (Jordan Smith, Stephan Jaeger, Steven Fisk, Sudarshan Yellamaraju, Kevin Roy, and David Lipsky) are just behind, tied at 8-under-par. A total of 24 players remain within three strokes of the lead after round 1, including Michael Brennan, Rico Hoey, Doug Ghim, and Ben James as the top threats.
Looking ahead, we have new data at our disposal to adjust our approach in DFS formats before Round 2 gets underway on Friday. Conditions were completely calm on Thursday, and the course will continue to play receptive throughout the week, with dome golf conditions the norm in the Utah desert. Ahead, we’ll look to identify the players who have shown they are most due for a Round 2 breakout.
Take a look at some of the best pillar players for the 2026 Bank of Utah Championship DFS contests and live betting opportunities.
DraftKings Showdown Golf Strategy
DraftKings Golf Showdown Golf is a one-round Daily Fantasy format in which players aim to construct the best-scoring one-round lineup while staying within the allotted salary cap. To identify value in Golf Showdown, it’s typically best to focus on buy-low opportunities on players who’ve shown uncharacteristically poor putting in the prior round. There is also an opportunity to find leverage by identifying favorable weather splits and players who are more likely to card birdies-or-better.

Round 2 Bank of Utah Championship Showdown Pillar Plays
As expected, ball-striking form and putting skill have prevailed through the opening round at Black Desert Resort. In true desert course fashion, this is a venue that can be attacked from the fairway by trending wedge players, but it requires a good degree of driving skill to avoid the many lateral natural hazards that neighbor the fairway. That places a heightened importance on Total Driving, SG: Approach, and SG: Putting, as the leaders have displayed in the opening round. Looking ahead, it is going to take a consistent driver and streaky putter to go low at Black Desert Resort.
Identifying value players who check each of these boxes can provide valuable bonus points in the DraftKings Showdown format. The three players below will be foundational plays in my Round 2 Showdown lineups for these reasons.
Michael Brennan ($10,200)
If there’s one player who knows how to successfully navigate Black Desert Resort, it’s defending champion Michael Brennan. Brennan won in his PGA Tour debut this time last year, and seems to have picked up right where he left off with an opening round of 7-under-par. SG: OTT if often a clear indicator of how comfortable a player feels on a given course, and Brennan’s made his comfort known, ranking 2nd in SG: OTT and top-20 in terms of both Driving Distance and Driving Accuracy.
While driving is Brennan’s greatest strength, it’s even more encouraging to see how strong he has looked on approach (5th SG: APP) and putting (23rd SG: P). This is Brennan’s first start since the BMW Championship, so the hot start is encouraging as well considering the long layoff. If the putts continue to fall, he will be tough to beat this week, only three starts removed from his Wyndham Championship win.
Sudarshan Yellamaraju ($7,300)
Perhaps the most volatile player on the PGA Tour in 2026, it’s not entirely surprising to find Yellamaraju’s name atop the leaderboard at Black Desert Resort, which rewards aggressive play from confident drivers. He ranked 2nd in the field in SG: T2G, and top-10 in Driving Distance, SG: Ball Striking, and SG: ARG, demonstrating an excellent all-around start to his Bank off Utah debut.
The Fall Series is an excellent opportunity to reset, and the sustained layoff seems to have done the Canadian rookie some good. Prior to this week, he’d failed to crack the top-40 in any of his last seven starts. There’s no doubt the potential is there for Yellamaraju, though, as he burst onto the scene early this season with five top-15 finishes over his first nine starts. If the Fall Series serves as another new beginning, he seems poised to remain in contention this week.
Steven Fisk ($7,000)
Driving and putting have proven to be the two most important categories at Black Desert Resort through its first two years on the PGA Tour schedule. If that trend continues, it’s Steven Fisk who appears to be best-equipped to capitalize. He is the only player to rank top-10 in both categories through the opening round.
A winner on the PGA Tour earlier this season at the ISCO Championship, Fisk is accustomed to going low in easy scoring conditions. And while he is not the most dangerous player in this field with an iron in hand, he’s able to make up for that with his putter. Fisk has posted five top-25s over his last 15 starts, including a T22 in his first start of the Fall Series in Asheville.
Live Bets To Consider Entering Round 2
Tournament Matchup: Johnny Keefer over Harry Hall
Best Available odds: -115
Talent has prevailed over experience at the Bank of Utah Championship in its first two years on the PGA Tour, and there’s no doubting the talent and potential that 25-year-old former Korn Ferry Tour standout possesses.
Both Keefer and Hall are deadlocked at 4-under-par through the opening round, but it’s Keefer who’s taken the more sustainable route to get there, ranking 4th in SG: OTT and 22nd in SG: T2G. Hall is one of the most skilled players in this field on and around the green, but as easy as this course has proven to be thus far, I’m siding with the superior ball striker in this matchup.
Leader After Round 2: Michael Brennan
Best Available odds: +1300
I stopped myself from betting Michael Brennan outright this week, in fear that he would come out too rusty, having not played since the BMW Championship in August. Rust aside, there was no reason to doubt Brennan’s current form or course fit, considering he is the defending champion and has finished T10 and 1st over his last three starts.
Well, one round in and it’s clear the rust is nothing to worry about. He burst out of the gates with an opening round of 7-under-par and is now just two strokes off of Zach Bauchou’s lead heading into round 2. There are plenty of birdie opportunities out there to cut into that deficit early, and I believe this course will continue to play into Brennan’s strengths.
Best of luck with your Bank of Utah Championship DFS lineups and bets!
