Mali pulled off an upset of Spain on the second day of the FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin. Teams from Groups A and B competed and host team Germany earned its first World Cup win in nearly three decades, Hungary held off a late Nigeria push, and France cruised past Korea for its second lopsided win in as many days.

FIBA Women’s World Cup Day 2 Results

Mali took control in the third quarter behind Sika Kone, who finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Djeneba N’Diaye matched her with 19 points, and Rokia Doumbia added 8 points and 9 assists.
Germany snapped a 28-year World Cup win drought in front of a sold-out crowd at Max-Schmeling-Halle, bouncing back from its Day 1 loss to Spain. Frieda Buhner led all scorers with 19 points, and Nyara Sabally added 18 points and 9 rebounds. A day after setting the tournament three-point record with 20 treys, Japan went cold from deep, making just 3 of 27 attempts (11.1%).
“We wanted this win so badly,” Germany’s Alexandra Wilke said after the game. Germany needs a win over Mali on Monday to reach the quarterfinals.
Hungary held off Nigeria in a tight finish with two players earning double-doubles. Dorka Juhász posted a impressive 19 points and 16 rebounds while Virág Takács-Kiss added 17-point plus 4 rebounds. Nigeria’s Amy Okonkwo scored 17. Hungary’s Réka Lelik iced the game at the free-throw line in the final seconds.
France remained unbeaten, routing Korea 95-69 behind a balanced attack. Marine Johannès led France with 17 points. Dominique Malonga and Gabby Williams scored 14 points each.
2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup Day 3 Games

- Puerto Rico vs. Belgium — 11:45 AM ET
- Italy vs. USA — 2:45 PM ET
Groups A and B are off Sunday. Groups C and D return, with each matchup pairing a Day 1 winner against a Day 1 loser.
Australia, fresh off a win over Puerto Rico, faces a Turkey team that fell to Belgium. Puerto Rico gets Belgium next, while unbeaten Italy and USA meet in Group D, and winless China and Czechia face off in the other Group D game.
