2026 Rocket Classic: Top DraftKings Showdown Plays & Live Bets Ahead of Round 3

The 2026 Rocket Classic has reached the halfway point, with Detroit Golf Club continuing to produce the low scores we’ve all come to expect from this event pre-restoration. Heavyweights Patrick Cantlay and Cameron Young co-lead at 10-under-par, but they’ll feel plenty of pressure from chasers over the weekend, with all 73 players through the cut within seven strokes of their lead. Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, and Michael Thorbjorsen highlight the list of contenders within three strokes of the lead.

Looking ahead, we have new data at our disposal to adjust our approach in DFS formats before Round 3 gets underway on Saturday. Conditions have been soft and calm so far, but the course will continue to get firmer as the week goes on. Ahead, we’ll look to identify the players who have shown they are most due for a Round 3 breakout.

DraftKings Showdown Golf Strategy

DraftKings Golf Showdown Golf is a one-round Daily Fantasy format in which players aim to construct the best-scoring one-round lineup while staying within the allotted salary cap. To identify value in Golf Showdown, it’s typically best to focus on buy-low opportunities on players who’ve shown uncharacteristically poor putting in the prior round. There is also an opportunity to find leverage by identifying favorable weather splits and players who are more likely to card birdies-or-better.

Round 3 Rocket Classic Showdown Pillar Plays

After such an extensive restoration, it was difficult to hold much conviction about how the new-look Detroit Golf Club would play. One round later, we’re starting to see those questions answered.

Detroit Golf Club has always had a reputation for being a birdie-makers’ dream, but we saw in round 1 that poor shots are more likely to be penalized now, with strategically placed fairway bunkers, raised greens, and longer rough. That places a heightened importance on driving accuracy and ball-striking, as the leaders have displayed in the opening round. Looking ahead, it is going to take a combination of driving accuracy, elite iron play, and a streaky putter to go low at Detroit Golf Club.

Identifying value players who check each of these boxes can provide valuable bonus points in the DraftKings Showdown format. The three players below will be foundational plays in my Round 3 Showdown lineups for these reasons.

Xander Schauffele ($10,000)

Perhaps the sleeping giant has finally awoken in Detroit. A disappointing 2026 campaign has relegated Schauffele outside the top-15 in terms of both OWGR and FedEx Cup standings. It’s far from panic mode in Schauffele’s camp, as he’s still posted 10 top-25 finishes over his last 12 starts, but those high finishes have not yielded many reps of closely contending on the weekend.

He’ll have two days of consequential golf ahead of himself now, though, as Schauffele sits T6 on the leaderboard at 8-under-par. While he hasn’t quite excelled in any particular area at Detroit Golf Club, he seems perfectly fine taking the slow and steady approach. Schauffele ranks top-30 in SG: OTT, SG: APP, SG: Ball Striking, Driving Accuracy, and SG: Putting. That all sets up well for a high floor in round 3, as he looks to continue climbing up the board on moving day.

Michael Brennan ($8,100)

Try as Tyler Rae may to discourage reckless driving at the new-look Detroit Golf Club, Brennan hasn’t quite gotten the message. The bomber is currently T6 at 8-under-par, despite ranking 118th in Driving Accuracy. He’s been able to lean on the strengths of his irons and putting to overcome that inaccuracy, as Brennan ranks top-10 in both categories. That is an encouraging sign, as Brennan appears to be carrying over strong momentum from TPC Twin Cities last week, where he channeled a similar game plan.

It’s uncharacteristic to see Brennan rank 113th in SG: OTT, as he has been one of the most consistently dominant players on Tour in that area throughout this season. That leads me to believe he’s due to dial in his driver over the weekend, and if he is able to play from a better position more consistently, the rest of his game looks ready to attack Detroit Golf Club.

Matt Wallace ($7,300)

Putting matters on Donald Ross courses, and Matt Wallace seems to like what he’s seen on these freshly renovated Ross greens. Wallace ranks 8th in SG: Putting through the first two rounds, and encouraging sight for a player who’s been very hit-or-miss on the greens this season. It hasn’t been just the putter that’s carried Wallace to T4 on the leaderboard thus far, though. He’s been above-average all around, ranking 27th in SG: T2G.

Wallace has gotten his fair share of reps contending this season, with two runner-up finishes over his last 10 starts. He has enjoyed playing at Detroit Golf Club, with two top-12 finishes over five career appearances. He’ll be very motivated the rest of this week as well, as he is currently 98th in the FedEx Cup standings and will need two strong weeks to reach the playoffs. With seven top-40 finishes over his last 12 starts, Wallace carries a high floor into Detroit Golf Club this weekend.

Live Bets To Consider Entering Round 3

Round 3 Matchup: Keita Nakajima over Johnny Keefer

Best Available odds: -102

In this battle of two relatively fresh faces on the PGA Tour, I find plenty more reason to feel optimistic about Nakajima’s floor outcome in this matchup. Keefer is a supremely gifted, yet raw, talent and continues to show extreme volatility in his first season on Tour. Through his first two rounds, Keefer ranks outside the top-110 in terms of both SG: APP and SG: ARG. That’s a concern, considering putting is not the strength of his game, as the putter has been the only thing keeping him alive through the weekend.

Nakajima has taken a far more stable approach through his first two rounds. He ranks 15th in SG: T2G, continuing to position himself well off-the-tee. While the putter hasn’t quite cooperated yet, his consistently tee-to-green play should lead to a higher floor in his third round.

Top Danish Player: Nicolai Hojgaard

Best Available odds: -132

I was bullish on Nicolai leading into this week, and at 5-under-par, just five strokes off the leading pace, I still feel confident he can make a concerted charge in a chasing role this weekend. As expected, Hojgaard has leaned on his driving distance as a strength, ranking 7th in the field in the category. Unfortunately, that length has led to overshooting the fairways into penalty hazards on multiple holes, making his strokes gained numbers look worse than his overall play has shown. Hojgaard also appears to be in total control of his putter, a necessary skill set to score on these Donald Ross greens; he ranks 6th in SG: Putting through the first two rounds.

Looking at the rest of this matchup, Nicolai will need to fend off Thorbjorn Olsen (-5) and his brother, Rasmus (-3). Nicolai held a major pre-tournament edge over the other Danes, and I expect him to improve as the week goes on.
