The 2026 TOUR Championship is officially underway, with East Lake Golf Club producing lower-than-expected scores in soft conditions. 28 of the 29 contestants are under par through the first two rounds, with East Lake producing a scoring average of nearly 3-under-par per round.
Viktor Hovland and Ryan Gerard have jumped up to a share of the lead at 10-under-par each, but there is a pack of contenders close behind. Eight other players are within 3 strokes of the lead at the halfway point, including Collin Morikawa, Chris Gotterup, Scottie Scheffler, and Cameron Young as top contenders.
Looking ahead, we have new data at our disposal to adjust our approach in DFS formats before Round 3 gets underway on Saturday. Conditions were wet from overnight rain on Thursday, but the course will continue to get firmer as the week goes on. Ahead, we’ll look to identify the players who have shown they are most due for a Round 3 breakout.

DraftKings Showdown Golf Strategy
DraftKings Golf Showdown Golf is a one-round Daily Fantasy format in which players aim to construct the best-scoring one-round lineup while staying within the allotted salary cap. To identify value in Golf Showdown, it’s typically best to focus on buy-low opportunities on players who’ve shown uncharacteristically poor putting in the prior round. There is also an opportunity to find leverage by identifying favorable weather splits and players who are more likely to card birdies-or-better.
Round 3 TOUR Championship Showdown Pillar Plays
As expected, ball-striking form and Bermuda putting skill have prevailed thus far at East Lake Golf Club. Much like last week at Bellerive Country Club, it is the longer hitters who are most skilled from long-distance on approach who have risen towards the top of the leaderboard. Looking ahead, it is going to take a combination of driving distance, elite iron play, and a streaky putter to go low at East Lake Golf Club.
Identifying value players who check each of these boxes can provide valuable bonus points in the DraftKings Showdown format. The three players below will be foundational plays in my Round 3 Showdown lineups for these reasons.
Chris Gotterup ($8,300)
A slow start to his 2025 TOUR Championship debut derailed any hopes of seriously contending. That has not been the case this go around in 2026, however, as Gotterup finds himself just one stroke off the lead at 9-under-par going into the weekend. Gotterup has had a top-5 season on the PGA Tour this year, picking up three wins across the Sony Open, WM Phoenix Open, and John Deere Classic. Combine that with his other wins at the Myrtle Beach Classic and Genesis Scottish Open, and it becomes clear that Gotterup is not a monolith when it comes to course fits.
He’s leaned on his elite ball-striking skill to separate thus far, ranking 5th in SG: OTT and SG: Ball Striking through his first two rounds. Most encouragingly, Gotterup ranks top-8 in terms of both Driving Accuracy and Driving Distance, leading to ample approaches from the fairway with scoring clubs in hand. That is the key to scoring on long par-70 courses, and he’s proven he knows the formula to find birdie opportunities at East Lake.
Russell Henley ($7,400)
Positioning at East Lake is crucial, and that happens to be one of Russell Henley’s greatest strengths. He leads the field in Driving Accuracy through the first two rounds of the TOUR Championship, hitting 23 of 28 fairways thus far. That ability to play from the fairway has made life easy for Henley, who has made just one bogey through his first 36 holes. He was the worst putter in the field on Thursday, but bounced back nicely in his second round, posting an impressive 5-under 65 in which he ranked top-10 in SG: OTT, SG: APP, and SG: Putting.
Henley is a top-6 player by OWGR’s standards, and he certainly looked the part as one of golf’s elite talents on Friday. As the course continues to firm up, Henley will benefit from some additional rollout distance off-the-tee. If his putter continues to cooperate on these familiar Bermuda greens, he’ll be a threat to go low again on moving day.
Akshay Bhatia ($6,100)
JJ Spaun’s disappointing summer and withdrawal from this tournament due to injury has opened up a Captain’s Selection spot on the Team USA Presidents Cup team. I wrote on Thursday about the window this has created for current co-leader Ryan Gerard, but Akshay Bhatia also has an opportunity in front of him if he’s able to step on the gas over the weekend.
Bhatia had reached a share of the lead before his tee shot on the par-3 15th found the water, so a round of 69 on Friday does not tell the full story of Bhatia’s form. His 12 birdies through the first two rounds is tied for 3rd most in the field, so his focus on Saturday will be to clean up the crooked numbers on the card. Ranking top-11 in terms of both SG: APP and SG: Putting, his ability to rebound will simply come down to positioning off the tee.

Live Bets To Consider Entering Round 3
Round 3 Matchup: Tommy Fleetwood over Patrick Cantlay
Best Available Odds: -112
It was hard to imagine Patrick Cantlay’s putting could get any worse after what we saw at the BMW Championship, but then again, it is too late in the season to expect players to abruptly fix their long-term flaws leading into the TOUR Championship. Cantlay remains in neutral on the greens through two rounds, and is near the very bottom of the leaderboard at 2-under-par. As bad as his putting has been, the driver has been even worse for Cantlay, who ranks last in driving accuracy, having hit just 9 of 28 fairways thus far.
Positioning is everything at East Lake, and it is a strength that Fleetwood leaned on when picking up his maiden PGA Tour victory here last year. He was above-average to the field in Driving Accuracy on Friday, and has been 2 strokes better than Cantlay at the halfway point.
Top 10 Finisher: Russell Henley
Best Available Odds: +160
I really liked what I saw from Henley in his bounce-back second round, and believe he’s built some positive momentum that can carry on through the weekend. East Lake is a strong course fit for his game, with a long history of rewarding elite total drivers with reliable mid-to-long irons.
He shot the second-best round of the day on Saturday, leaning on those strength and ranking 1st in SG: OTT and 3rd in SG: Ball Striking. A native Georgian and Bermuda specialist, Henley should feel right at home this weekend, and isn’t too far behind the eight ball, currently T15 at 5-under-par.
