After entering the first round listed as a sizable underdog on the series moneyline, the Anaheim Ducks have been able to defy expectations by taking a 3-1 lead over the Edmonton Oilers. A stunning display, yet their performance in game four was solidified, beating the Oilers in Expected Goals 3.49-3.06.

With the Oilers back line struggling to bottle up Anaheim’s offense, the Ducks will be able to continue to generate high quality Shots on Goal at a blistering fast rate and light up the scoreboard. Especially with Tristan Jarry incapable of walling them off, resulting in a high scoring affair and a potential early exit from the playoffs for Edmonton.

After struggling to play at a competitive level last year, the Anaheim Ducks front line have turned into one of the more explosive units in the league, fielding a group who ranks in the top-3 in Expected Goals For in All Situations and in 5-on-5 Play. With Edmonton’s back line struggling in coverage, the width of the Ducks shooting lanes have widened, making it easier to pepper their net from multiple angles.

When having to deal with an abundance of pressure in front of the crease, Tristan Jarry has crumbled, averaging 3.32 Goals Against per game and a .882 Save Percentage throughout the regular season. With Jarry struggling to give them the protection they need, the Oilers are forced to play in highly volatile contests which evens the playing field in the Ducks favor.
