Houston vs. Texas Tech (-10.5 > -7.5)

Heading into the year, Texas Tech was expected to be in a tier of their own in the Big 12 with some sportsbooks listing them as high as -165 to win the conference title. Two games into the year, the Red Raiders have yet to look the part, limping into Week 3 ranked below league average in Off Success Rate, Explosiveness, and in Havoc Allowed.

With their offense struggling to find their footing, bettors have been quick to back Houston, steaming the Cougars down from +10.5 to +7.5. While Houston does struggle to stop their opponents from creating explosive plays, the Red Raiders rely on conservative gains to keep their drives alive, giving the Cougars a great opportunity to keep it close enough to secure the upset.

LSU vs. Ole Miss (+3 > +2.5)

In a jam packed slate, all eyes are on LSU and Ole Miss with Lane Kiffin making his return to Oxford after a drama filled offseason. To really kick dirt in the Rebels face, the Tigers have looked like one of the best teams in the nation under Kiffin, leading the nation in Success Rate while skyrocketing up the oddsboard to win the national championship.

It is worth noting Sam Leavitt is listed as doubtful on LSU’s injury report. While it is most likely Kiffin trolling the Rebels, it was enough to get the Tigers off the key number of -3. If Leavitt is unable to suit up, then expect the Tigers to continue to steam down and flip to the underdog. Even with advantages at other areas of the field, the loss of Leavitt will make them less versatile, putting the Rebels in a favorable position to neutralize their offense.

Georgia vs. Arkansas (+21.5 > +24.5)

Like the Tigers, Georgia has also looked like one of the most complete teams in the nation, ranking near the top of the board in Success Rate and in Havoc on both sides of the ball. While the Bulldogs have thrived, the Arkansas Razorbacks have underwhelmed, failing to cover against North Alabama before losing to Utah 10-43.

With both teams trending in vastly different directions, bettors have hammered the Bulldogs, steaming them from -21.5 to -24.5. Even when sitting on the opposite side of a key number, it’s tough to envision how Arkansas will keep pace with Georgia who possesses clear advantages on both sides of the ball, leading to a lopsided affair.

Florida State vs. Alabama (-15.5 > -19)

After a shaky start against Kentucky, Alabama was eventually able to get into a groove and rout the Wildcats 45-17. While their win looks impressive on paper, the Crimson Tide still have glaring holes all over their offense, ranking in the bottom half of the board in Rush PPA and in Explosiveness.

Fortunately for Alabama, they will be able to continue to mask their lack of production on the ground in their Week 3 matchup against Florida State by torching a Seminoles secondary who grades out terribly in coverage. Bettors are in agreement with that sentiment, betting the Crimson Tide up from -15.5 to -19.

SMU vs. Louisville (-2.5 > -1)

After a disheartening loss to Ole Miss in overtime, Louisville was able to take their frustrations out on Villanova, beating the Wildcats 59-13. During that two game span, their offense has been able to play at a very high level, ranking in the top-40 in EPA, Finishing Drives, Explosiveness, and in Havoc Allowed.

Even with their offense firing on all cylinders, bettors have tempered their expectations in their matchup against SMU, betting the Mustangs down from +2.5 to +1. With the Cardinals defense struggling to give them the production they need to be a well rounded unit, they will find themselves playing in a high variance track meet, shading value towards the underdog.

How to Read Line Movement

  • Sharp money: Bets from professional bettors with long-term winning records — can move a line even when it creates liability for the book.
  • Reverse line movement: When a line moves opposite the majority of public bets, signaling sharp action on the other side.
  • Steam move: A sudden, sharp line shift across multiple sportsbooks at once, usually triggered by heavy sharp action.
  • Public betting percentage: The share of bets (not necessarily money) on each side — useful mainly in contrast with where the line actually moves.
  • Key numbers: Point values (3 and 7 in the NFL especially) that a high share of games land on — a line crossing one matters more than the raw point total suggests.
