Dallas Mavericks at Portland Trail Blazers Preview
The Portland Trail Blazers host the Dallas Mavericks at Moda Center late tonight. On Monday night Dallas lost to the New Orleans Pelicans in overtime 129-125. Even though Luka Doncic has racked up triple-doubles for most of his rookie years, It looks as if the Mavericks are tanking for a better probability in the ping pong lottery. They’ve lost their last 13 of 15 games and have fallen to 28-42 on the season.
Also Monday night, Portland beat the Indiana Pacers at home. They currently sit fourth in the Western Conference as they’re 5 games behind Golden State for the top spot. Portland also sits 4.5 games behind the Nuggets for the two seed. It’s amazing that Portland has managed to win games despite losing one of their best players in CJ McCollum.
These teams have already played three times this season with Dallas winning two of three. In the last meeting, Dallas squeaked by at home winning 102-101 on February 10.

Dallas Mavericks Starting Lineup
In the Mavericks overtime loss to New Orleans on Monday. Luka Doncic led the team in scoring and had himself another triple-double with 29 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists. Other contributions came from Tim Hardaway Jr scoring 21 points and Dwight Powell scoring 16. From the field, Dallas shot 43 percent and finished 9 of 35 from the 3-point line. They also appeared to have control of the lead for most of the game but struggled late in the fourth quarter. Which allowed New Orleans to rally behind Julius Randle, who scored 11 points in the final 3:29 of regulation.
Statistically, The Mavericks have been below average on the offensive end of the floor this season. Their 21st in the league in scoring with 108.2 points per game, and rank 19th in rebounding with 45 boards per contest. They also rank 24th with 22.9 points per game. Defensively there actually above league average and allowing 109.9 points per game which ranks 11th in the league.
In Luka Doncic last ten games he has continued putting up 22.6 points with 9.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists. He’s shot 41.1 percent from the floor but an awful 23.9 percent from three during that span.
Portland Trail Blazers Starting Lineup
Unlike the Mavericks, Portland is looking to stay hot after winning four of their last five games. On Monday they beat Indiana 106-98 at home with Damian Lillard leading them with 30 points and 15 assists. Other contributions came from Jusuf Nurkic scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Al-Farouq Aminu scoring 16 points. Portland shot 46 percent from the field and was 13 of 32 from three. They also prevented Indiana from rallying late after Portland built a nice lead in the second and third quarters. With the easy win, Portland improved to 43-27 on the season.
The Trail Blazers come into tonight ranked 10th in the league in scoring with 113.9 points per game and 3rd in the league in rebounding collecting 47.7 boards a night. Defensively they rank 13th in the league by allowing 110.3 points a night. The addition of Enes Kanter has paid dividends for the Trail Blazers which has taken pressure off Jusuf Nurkic and has provided Portland with a solid secondary big man. With McCollum being out as he’s dealing with a strain in his knee, added pressure will be put on Rodney Hood to step up and contribute.
