Sportsbook partnerships are by no means new in professional sports. As popularity continues to rise, professional teams and even leagues have started striking deals with different sports betting platforms. Years ago, William Hill announced a deal with the Washington Wizards that includes a physical sportsbook inside Capital One Arena. The NFL announced groundbreaking partnerships with numerous books before the football season kicked off, including BetMGM, PointsBet, WynnBET, and FOX Bet. This was especially surprising given the leagueâs longstanding pushback against wagering on pro sports. Well, another major sports league has inked a deal with one of the biggest sportsbooks on the market. Letâs take a deeper look.
NHL Announces Partnership With DraftKings Sportsbook
Pro hockey has a new sports betting partner. Itâs just been announced that the National Hockey League will make DraftKings the official sports betting, iGaming, and daily fantasy sports partner of the organization. The partnership is meant to be mutually beneficial, as DraftKings will get access to team assets to enhance the experience for bettors. Additionally, the two will collaborate on exclusive promotions and sweepstakes. With more synergy between the two, pro hockey viewership looks to see a spike as users monitor their wagers.
The deal doesnât stop with just the NHL. DraftKings has also established partnerships with Turner Sports, one of the networks that will be covering the pro hockey season. The sportsbook will serve as the official sports betting and daily fantasy sports partner during the networkâs NHL coverage. The deal also includes a partnership with the popular sports website Bleacher Report.
Plenty of Other DraftKings Partnerships
This is far from the only deal that DraftKings Sportsbook has struck up in its attempt to grow its sports betting market share. In early 2020, the betting platform signed deals with three separate NBA squads: the Philadelphia 76ers, Indiana Pacers, and Boston Celtics. In the middle of the MLB season, the Boston Red Sox announced DraftKings as the teamâs official daily fantasy sports partner. And thatâs only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to DraftKingsâ numerous agreements with teams across the different leagues.
But DraftKings isnât just focusing on sports teams in their business deals. In August this year, the sportsbook partnered with Genius Sports, a sports technology and data company. The deal focused primarily on sports data, as well as DraftKings gaining use of Genius Sportsâ 170,000 different live video feeds of various sporting events.
Expect More (and Better) Promotions
If youâre a longtime DraftKings Sportsbook user, you know that the promotions tend to lean heavily on football, baseball, and basketball. The platform didnât offer much of anything for yesterdayâs official start to the NHL season, instead focusing on other sports or more general promos. Other books went much heavier on the first day of the NHL, such as Caesars Sportsbook, which offered a $50 bonus bet if you wagered on the initial two matchups. With the partnership only announced today, expect a flurry of new, improved hockey promos from DraftKings Sportsbook.
