Semifinal Matchups: USA vs. Spain, France vs. Germany
The semifinals for the FIBA Women’s World Cup are set. In the quarterfinals, the U.S. routed Hungary, France blew out China, Germany turned back Belgium, and Spain pulled away from Australia.

USA 108, Hungary 56
In the first quarter, the U.S. pulled away from Hungary and never let them get close. The Americans opened a 36-12 lead after the first quarter, took a 59-30 lead into halftime and cruised from there.
Napheesa Collier led her team with 19 points and added 7 rebounds. Rhyne Howard scored 15 and Caitlin Clark ran the offense with 10 points, 9 assists. Hungary’s leading scorer at the tournament, Dorka Juhász, was held to two points on 1-of-12 shooting.
The USA plays Spain in the semifinal Saturday.
France 90, China 61
France built an early cushion and never let go, taking control for good when Marine Johannès tied the score at 20-20 with 2:37 left in the first quarter.
Janelle Salaün and Johannès each scored 15 points to lead France. Salaün shot 6-of-12 from the field with 6 rebounds and 2 assists and no turnovers, while Johannès added a game-high 7 assists. Gabby Williams added 14 points and 7 rebounds. Leila Lacan scored 12 points off the bench. Han Xu led China with 21 points and 9 rebounds.
France plays Germany in the semifinal Saturday.
Germany 93, Belgium 74
Germany trailed 19-18 late in the first quarter before Frieda Bühner’s jumper put the hosts ahead for good. An 11-0 run spanning the end of the first quarter and the start of the second turned that deficit into a 29-19 lead, and Germany led the rest of the way.
Nyara Sabally had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds on 5-of-11 shooting. Leonie Fiebich added 17 points and 10 rebounds, Alexis Peterson contributed 13 points and 6 assists without a turnover. Emma Meesseman kept Belgium in the game with 29 points on 12-of-21 shooting, adding 8 rebounds. Julie Allemand had 10 points and 7 assists, and Kyara Linskens finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds.
Spain 89, Australia 66
Spain trailed briefly in the first quarter before pulling away with a 16-0 run that turned a 15-15 tie into a 15-31 lead. Spain’s advantage grew to as many as 24 points.
Iyana Martín led Spain with 14 points and 4 assists, shooting 5-of-11 from the field. Megan DiLeo scored 16 points on 7-of-11 off the bench. Maria Conde added 10 points and 7 rebounds, and Alicia Florez had 10 points. Stephanie Talbot had a double-double for Australia with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists.
Australia’s Ezi Magbegor missed the game after tearing her right ACL in Wednesday’s win over Italy. Australia was also missing Alanna Smith, who reaggravated a leg injury in the tournament opener, according to the AP.
