Tournament favorites United States and France both punched their tickets to Sunday’s gold medal game with semifinal wins on Saturday. The Americans held off Spain 76-66 for a fifth consecutive trip to the World Cup final, while France routed host Germany 86-64 to reach its first-ever World Cup final. Sunday’s gold medal game is a rematch of the 2024 Paris Olympic final, which the U.S. won by a single point.

USA 76, Spain 66
Spain jumped ahead 9-1, its biggest lead of the game at eight points. The teams traded baskets over the next several minutes before Spain pushed back ahead 16-9 with just under five minutes left in the first quarter, and the U.S. closed the period on an 11-0 run to take a 20-16 lead.
Spain fought back to tie the game at 58-58 late in the third quarter, but the U.S. reclaimed the lead in the fourth quarter and built a margin as large as 12 points to close out the win. USA won the fourth quarter 18-8.
“Just a battle — we knew it would be,” said USA head coach Kara Lawson. “When it was winning time, we were the superior team and we deserve to be moving on. We’re excited to be playing in a World Cup final tomorrow. It’s pretty awesome.”

France 86, Germany 64
France led 25-23 after the first quarter and carried a 45-38 advantage into halftime before creating separation in the second half. The French held Germany to 12 points in the third quarter and extended the lead to 64-50, then closed with a 22-point fourth quarter to secure the 86-64 victory. Germany committed 24 turnovers as France advanced to the World Cup final for the first time.
