Best Bet: CLEM +14.5 (-105) at Hard Rock Bet

Best Bet: O47.5 (-115)

Score Prediction: Miami-Florida 31, Clemson 17

The Pick: Miami-Florida 31, Clemson 17

We’ll go with Clemson’s ATS based on head-to-head trends and Miami’s ATS struggles in specific situations like this one.

Game Betting Analysis

This is a classic example of going with the data over personal opinion, should be fun to see which wins. The data is pointing towards Clemson, while the opinion is pointing towards Miami-Florida. We abide to the data, though, which shows Clemson covering four of five meetings against Miami-Florida, while the Hurricanes have also failed to cover the spread in a remarkable 19 of 21 games when facing a non-AP ranked school in October as the favorite. Finite, yes, but a 2-19 ATS mark is hard to ignore. The Over also seems to be fine to test, for those who are afraid to touch the Tigers in this one (no judgment there). The Over has hit in five of six games for the Hurricanes along with the last two meetings against Clemson. The setback there, though, is the line at 47.5 while Clemson is averaging just 38.5 points per home game this season – paired with a defense that has seemingly turned things around (more on that below).

Miami Florida-Clemson Odds (Spread, Moneyline, Over/Under)

Deciding Factor: Miami’s Explosive Offense vs. Clemson’s Resurgent Defense

Miami arrives at 4-0 and ranked No. 4 after posting an average margin of victory near 43 points in September, and the offense has no real soft spot to attack. QB Darian Mensah completed 23 of 27 passes for 338 yards and 3 touchdowns while adding a rushing score in the win over Central Michigan, and 11 different Hurricanes caught a pass in that game alone, led by Malachi Toney’s 6 catches for 120 yards. That kind of depth makes Miami difficult to defend with any single-coverage plan.

Clemson’s defense, though, isn’t the same unit that got shredded for 51 points by LSU in Week 1. Over its last three games, Clemson has held opponents to an average of just 12.3 points, anchored by Thorpe Award candidate cornerback Ashton Hampton and a secondary that’s tightened considerably. The Tigers sit 3-1 and, alongside Miami, are one of the ACC’s only two 2-0 teams in conference play, meaning this one doubles as a measuring stick for whether Clemson’s defensive turnaround is real or whether Miami’s balanced attack is simply too much to handle.
